I agree. I think Jedevon Clowney's mom should look into the % of players who graduate from the Capstone as compared to the % at South Carolina and Clemson. If he had a career ending injury, Spurrier would not keep him on scholarship because South Carolina can't afford to give up even one scholarship as far down as their program is. Maybe it would help if Jedevon had a talk with Tyrone Prothro.

you are aware that south caroina's football graduation rate has been better than alabama's 4 of the past 6 years? Like Saban, Spurrier puts an emphasis on studies. USC grad rate did dip last year, but the football team just posted its highest GPA ever last semester. Also, I am not aware of Spurrier or USC ever revoking a player's schollie because he was injured.

There are lots of legitimate reasons for Clowney (or anyone for that matter) to go play for Bama, no need to make up others to get that point across.

I had already given up hope on JC, but if there is a cherry on top about where JC is going it's this article. He's announcing at the "school auditorium", my money is on USCe, period. If it was Bama or Clemson he would prolly do it at home or a restuarant, but since it is at school...........he's a USCe.

Im going to be totally honest here...

I think Clowney is an amazing athlete, and a top 10 player in the country, but I don't see why everyone thinks he is the best prospect in years, etc. This has nothing to do with him leaning anywhere, I'd feel this way even if he came to Bama. He has very good speed, but he'd have to add about 20lbs-30lbs to play DE in our system, and there is no telling how that would effect his speed. Cyrus literally went toe to toe with him at the UA game, and with the way our depth chart is, he wouldn't play an very big role on our team until year 2. I feel like Pagan will develop into a better player in time, he is 25lbs heavier right now and is only a .10 of a second off of JC's .40 time. Pagan will also have the added benefit of having one of the best DL coaches in the nation, being in the best S&C program in the nation, playing for the best defensive mind in the nation, being around guys like Upshaw, and practicing against studs like Cyrus every day.

Maybe it would be good if you actually looked into the facts behind your assumptions before you post, capnfrog...Spurrier does a great job with his student atheletes...

sometimes, the bare facts are that there is more than one good choice for college...
Hopefully, Clowney sees his future in crimson, but if not, he'll do great anywhere he chooses...best of luck to him in his future, and Roll Tide!

I agree with you with one exception. Spurrier has been known to pull someone's schollie if they are not performing to Spurrier's standards. Now, I don't have a problem with that just pointing it out. Saban, on the otherhand, has been known to find the player a schollie or another team to transfer to. Unless you are a discipline problem, Saban takes care of all his athletes despite the media uproar about medical hardships. There is a reason why Saban has more and that is because he just doesn't terminate their schollies like most coaches do.

I definitely agree. He wasn't even the best player at the UA game, IMO. I'd love to have him, but I see Pagan and Dickson being studs at DE. Adding in Pettway, Fanning, and Hubbard (at Jack), I see us having no problems getting pressure on the QB.

I'm not as excited about his announcement as I thought I would be back in January. I really don't think we're gonna get him. Anyways, I realize Kornblut is USCe writer, but apparently JC's decision is already made.

South Pointe DE Jadeveon Clowney told Josh Kendall of The State Thursday afternoon he has made his college decision. Clowney said only his mother knows his choice which he will reveal Monday morning at 10:15. Clowney told Kendall in an in person interview Thursday before his basketball practice that he based his decision on “who I felt at home around the most and how I’m going to feel when I’m playing with the people.” Clowney said ht took calls Wednesday from USC's Steve Spurrier and Clemson's Dabo Swinney. He also talked with an Alabama coach earlier in the week. Clowney said he's not made plans yet to attend one of the basketball games Saturday at either USC or Clemson. “I might go to a game now that you say it,” he said. “I don’t know which one yet," he told Kendall.

This is pretty significant news especially with the general sentiment on TF that we were out of it. The way I'm looking at it is like "gravy on mashed potatoes." If we get him it's gravy, but if not it's still great!

It"s a big decision for him if Alabama is not in the mix and a no brainer if one of the other two was out! Does he pick SC or Clemson for the sole reason of wanting to be close to home or does he want to up his draft status and play for championships as well as making the #1 recruiting class quite a bit stronger! Roll with the Tide and win championships, that is the name of the game! I dont think Saban is ever out until the papers are signed sealed and delivered!

He's a great high school player. CNS will make him as good as he can be as a college player before he turns pro. Good coaching and good depth just makes him more technically sound and less prone to injury. Close to home vs championship rings, that's the toughest battle for now. Hopefully, he chooses the rings. All of you are assuming that Clowney will develop better at Alabama than South Carolina but other than Cody and Dareus USCe has had better defensive line development IMO...our DL development has left a lot to be desired...just saying. I know we have a new guy though.

Of course that's irrelevant anyway but unless Clowney just slacks during his time at USCe he's gonna end up a top 5 draft pick anyway. The championship argument as well is irrelevant. Clowney doesn't really care about championships, which I know is hard to understand for those of us raised in the great state of Alabama. Trying to entice someone from South Carolina is like enticing someone from Tuscaloosa with caviar: it might sound interesting and we might want to try it, but in the end it's "just isn't us"; we'd rather have barbecue.
