AJ Green & Patrick Peterson score pretty low on the Wonderlic test

Interesting read. Link here I think characterizing Green as dumb is beyond harsh. We've seen the kid play enough to know that there's not a thing at all wrong with his football IQ.

Quarterbacks Greg McElroy and Blaine Gabbert blew the curve on the Wonderlic test at the Scouting Combine, scoring a genius-level 43 and 42, respectively.

According to Pro Football Weekly, receiver A.J. Green and cornerback Patrick Peterson notched a 10 and a 9, respectively. Both are widely believed to be on track to be drafted in the top 10.

The score prompted an unnamed scout to tell PFW that “A.J. won’t reach his full potential” and that “t’s hard for dumb receivers.”

Green’s agent, Ben Dogra, objected to the characterization from the unnamed scout. “There’s a reason why that [unnamed source] probably will remain a scout for a long time instead of becoming a decision-maker — and you can quote me on that,” Dogra told USA Today. “It’s very hard to make a blanket statement like that. It’s one piece of the puzzle. A kid running a 4.33 in the 40 doesn’t mean he will be a Hall of Famer, either. It’s all relative.”

“I was just thinking [too long],” Green told USA Today. “Everybody has their own opinion. I know what I can do. I am going to work hard to be the best.”

This doesn't surprise me in the least. It would be nice if someone from the ncaa went around to some of AJ's and Peterson's professors at UGA and LSU respectively and find out just how many times they were seen during the course of their stays in Athens and Red Stick. Nobody that dumb can even pass a sociology exam at the Barn. That's just pathetic.

It's a pretty standard cognitive competency test. Similar to any IQ test really.

In fact, you can get a rough IQ estimate from the wonderlic score. IQ = (Wonderlic score * 2) + 60. McElroy has a legitimate genius level IQ, whereas Peterson and Green are surely LD.

how hard is that test. anybody have an idea on question types?
My opinion only...you probably need to be smarter than 75% of the population to score around a 28, which is just a little better than making a 50% on the test itself. The questions are not multiple choice -- you must respond by entering the precise answer to each question. The 50 questions represent a wide variety of question types: mathematics, vocabulary, patterns, logic, etc. In my opinion, this test is a good, quick instrument to gauge aptitude/intelligence -- I've used it in hiring for about 15 years.

I wonder what the 4.33 40 time comment from the agent was about? Surely not a shot at Julio Jones, who has received zero negative attention since the combine. And, is starting to develop a legendary status (like we already knew about the man) with the surgery following the combine.
I am not sure about Greene but I always thought that Peterson had a pretty good head on his shoulders. I know with Greene, he was one of the few UGA players who didn't get arrested and Peterson seemed to be one who enjoyed playing against the best and seemed pretty well spoken when talking about it. Maybe each guy hates test and just wanted to get it over with and circled C on the last 15 questions.....

If I gave my real opinion of Clay Travis, I would be banned from this board. But he just tweeted this:

"Like I've said before, single digit Wonderlics should cost scholarships. It's 100% evidence schools cheated on eligibilty."
Can't say that I disagree. Not sure how on Earth a kid staying eligible for three years with that kind of fuzz between the ears. Only question might be if the player simply didn't take the test seriously, in which case they're a different kind of dumb.

I find it ironic that when Greg's and other's high scores are revealed the media points to ones that didn't score as high but did well in the NFL and says, "The Wonderlic doesn't predict how well they will do." But when scores like these are revealed they make a huge deal about it. I'm not saying it's alright for these two to make so poorly on the test. I just find the reaction from the media funny.

Lets not get all high and mighty just yet. Julio only scored a 15 which left him in the bottom 12 among wideouts.

I think the Wonderlic certainly has it's place. But, unless the low scores were also evident in team interviews, they are both still going to be top picks, and have some of the lowest bust potential in the class. I still think Peterson is the best overall player in the draft.

Yep, the dude's a beast. He better do something about his cramping situation though or he'll be a sure fire bust.

He'll be the best player on the field... when he's hydrated ;)
Won't get any argument from me on that one. He is one of the most talented players I've seen in a while. Very explosive player. I wonder what the deal was with his hydration issues? I know it wasn't just an isolated instance in the 2009 game against us. If I remember correctly this was a common problem with him.

He has definitely had issues with cramping his entire career. A buddy of mine who is an LSU alum and die-hard fan told me the LSU staff has tried everything they can think to address the issue but nothing has been able to fix it. They have even tried IV's on him pre-game and during half time and that didn't even work. That could be a serious issue in the future for him.

Not doubting you, but if that is the case, sounds like he has some health issues. I'm not a medical person by any means; just a conclusion from the known information. When I was in high school, one of my frienss was the center for the football team. He had bad cramps a lot. One day he was rushed to the hospital because of them. His "fix" was mustard. He would have a pack or two a day at lunch, and he'd be good to go.
