I have a hard time believing that Jameis Winston would commit to us if Gunner Kiel pulled the trigger first. That would be (5) scholarship QB's on the roster. Unlike other positions, there can be only 1 QB on the field at a time and with that many 4 and 5 star QB's, on the roster, I don't think there'd be enough football in the state of Alabama to go around for all of those guys.

We will continue to recruit Jameis if Gunner commits early but to be honest I wouldn't expect us to get both. That's why we have started evaluating a lot more QB's as a possible second QB signee. We are gonna sign two regardless.

it would be bittersweet, especially being from Hueytown, but you cant turn either of them in hopes of getting the other. However, I'm sure we will continue to recruit him either way and it may be a moot point considering Winston's baseball prospects. Worst case scenario is it pushes Jameis to FSU, which is much more acceptable than Auburn at least.

Yeah that's what I'm feeling right now.
I've got the same feeling. Kiel has already been on multiple visits to UA and now he is back again with his mother? It sounds to me like they are just dotting the I's and crossing the T's at this point. That's my interpretation of it, anyway.

Who cares if we got get Winston if Gunner signs with us? Only one of them can play and I get the feeling Gunner would beat Winston out. We're not a spread team and Gunner looks to be a much better passer than Winston. I'd actually say that Gunner is my number one most-wanted recruit for this class. His highlights are incredible, he's a true pocket passer and that's what we need. Now if we could land Lambert as well...wow.

Hopefully Winston goes to the MLB so FSU doesn't get 'em. I hope we play FSU in a bowl game this year, I'm about gettin tired of em.

I'm with Chop on this one: It never feels good losing a local kid who's a national recruit, particularly one we've been counting on for several years, something we really haven't seen under CNS.

I'd like to think that our coaches and JW have had a frank and ongoing discussion of how things are developing for both sides.

Gunner is the best passer in the country and fits our offense perfectly. If he wants to commit we have to take him, regardless of what Jameis wants to do. And Jameis might very well end up playing MLB but he has mentioned, wherever he goes, focusing on baseball his first year while he redshirts in football. Regardless of in-state or childhood team loyalties we have to take the best player we can and Gunner might be the best QB we've signed in most of our lifetimes. Nothing against AJ or Sims but he has the potential to be that good. Not to mention whoever signs Gunner is likely the frontrunner to sign DGB.

I wasn't planning to get all wrapped up in this QB recruiting battle especially with a guy from Indiana. Thanks Airborne, now I'm fully captivated. :) My heart says go with the state product, but like you said how can you turn a QB like Gunner down if he does indeed want to come to Alabama? And the DBG factor.....wow! I'm more than a ready for a star QB at Alabama. It has been a long time.

Is is a stretch to compare Kiel to Namath or Stabler? I am hearing those type of comparisons, when some discuss his talent level. Thoughts?

I try not to level that kind of praise on a high school kid but there have definitely been some evaluations made that do claim he has that kind of ability. I am not an expert in evaluating QB's by any means. I know the basics, but people who know more than me have made some pretty strong statements about Gunner's potential.
