But don't you think it's a little ridiculous to form your opinion about Sheridan based on a sampling of one instance?
All I've said was let's not treat his comments like the Be All and End All, "the smoking gun." I don't think we ought to simply be acting like a faith-based religious argument ("Well, he told me what I want to hear to he MUST be right!").

I didn't say he was wrong. I do remember actually getting my hopes up a little when he made those comments in 2001 about us. And as another poster said, even Sheridan couldn't know how it would play out.

One thing that has disturbed me in this whole mess is the amount of "hope they get popped" posts on here. Make no mistake - it appears really bad, and if Auburn is guilty of even half of what is alleged they should have the book thrown at them. But I sometimes get the idea that some of the fans here have this "whoo boy, I really hope they go down."

I don't base my allegiance to the UofA on the basis of what happens at Auburn. And I seriously don't think anyone else here does either - but posts that sound of glee and hoped for destruction really do sound that way sometimes.

Remember: even if/when they get stripped of their title they got what they wanted - they got to strut around in championship shirts and hoist the trophy, to point to the sky as #1. By the time the day of reckoning occurs, they will already be ex-champs anyway since they'll probably have a few losses early this year. That's why the stripping of the title is, well, appropriate but meaningless.

They will always have enjoyed it - and what do they care about 60 years from now when they're dead and gone?

The POSITIVE for us is that once this happens they can NEVER say they don't care or that they are "mythical" championships.

If the NCAA thinks you are guilty... you are guilty. I remember a number of allegations that they made against Alabama and never proved. Yet, Alabama was penalized for them.

I'm not overly excited about this in terms of "oooh, it's gonna happen big and it's gonna happen soon!" Instead, I find the cockles of my heart warmed that we've had two "in-the-know" peeps (Sheridan and that NCAA lady whose name escapes me) recently confirm, in a nationally disseminated way, that the NCAA Auburn investigation does continue.

You and I have known it for nearly a year, while the barners persist in denying it. It's so nice to see them collectively slapped. Just makes me smile. :)
Don't forget to put Kirk McNair in this group as well. :)

Bottom Line. why are there people and posters who think that the NCAA needs proof ??? this thinking should be put to rest, sit back and watch them do whatever and say whatever they want if they want to nail any school!!! history will repeat itself.

I believe there is a whole lot of truth to this based on precedent at the NCAA.

Found this article on CBS sports. Looks like the NCAA is even looking at Cam's high priced suit he wore to Heisman Trophy ceremony.NCAA still sniffing around Auburn - CBSSports.com
Always love reading the comments at the end..

From a Georgia fan.
For all of you Auburn fans, get your crying towels out. Here is what is really happening. The FBI was investigating allegations of money laundering, improper political donations, and other fun things that go on in Alabama on a daily basis. Now that did not directly involve Auburn. Unfortunately for Auburn, the FBI used wiretaps to get a lot of information. Even more unfortunately for Auburn, conversations regarding Auburn and Cam Newton were recorded. If the FBi has a "Smoking Gun" phone conversation regarding anything that remotly suggests that Auburn agreed to pay for Newton's services, it is all over for Auburn. Say good-bye to your national Championship. Say good-bye to your football program. Auburn certainly does not rank with Alabama, Florida or LSU to begin with, but this would kill them. The 6-6 season that Auburn fans will suffer thru this season is going to look good compared to what the NCAA will do to them. Your fluke season will be forgotten, but the fact that Auburn is a dirty school will never be forgotten.

I was listening to finebaum today for a few minutes and a caller asked him if he were a odds maker in vegas what are the odds that the barn will get hit because of the cam deal. Danny said less around 50 percent in au favor. I didn't understand what he was saying that au got a decent chance not getting hit or getting hit. Fifty percent is not good odds in my book for something like this at all.
he meant that odds of auburn skating are less than half. And therefore odds of Au getting hit slightly better than half. In other words a coin flip or "I don't know"

Hard to get too excited until something actually happens.
I agree. We've been hearing about the hammer for awhile now and yet......."nothing". I'll believe it when I hear it out of the NCAA's mouth.

you must be one of those people who actually needs somebody to pinch you to check if you are alive....
Nah he's just using common sense right now. Just the other day everyone was giddy that the rumor was a "SEC West school" was about to get hammered yet lswho lost 2 schollys:eek2: Even if the NCAA has anything on $cam it WONT be out before the season starts regardless. Some of us like to see proof before we run around like school girls claiming victory:wink:

No sense in calling out OpsCon and giving him/her crap over it, we're on the same team here. I could under if he/she came on the board backing up the barnies...:BigA:

After all the rumors, tweets, and interviews by people "in the know", and 1600+ pages in the megathread, I too will wait until something actually happens....I hope it does, but it's just human nature to become somewhat apathetic to the "wolf" cry.
Yep this time last year word was they'd be done for by now. We're still waiting for a reason, its either they dont know enough yet or never will. I'm not running the streets just yet...

The REC sounds more powerful than the Free Masons. Pretty soon they'll be running the world with secret codes on the US Dollar Bill. I'm waiting for the History Channel to do a special on the secret society of the REC.
They control the climate, the government, and even the shuttle program. Word was the head of NASA was a barner so the REC decided that was THAT!

I agree that until something is "officially" announced then everything is simply rumor. However, it is hard to get around the length of this investigation and not to begin to start reasonably thinking there has to be something to this. We're into month ten, knocking on a year, and it is still ongoing. So I think we can safely say the NCAA found enough to continue investigating and they are continuing to find enough to keep it open. You don't keep an investigation open this long and extend it to almost a year and not have found anything in the first six months of the investigation. I know the NCAA has done some absolutely ignorant things but historically when they keep digging its because they've found reason to do so.
Its not that we dont think something is there, but if OpsCon is anything like me I'm not claiming victory until I actually see it. We all thought the Iron Bowl was over while freezing our tails off at the game and watching the barn look like a high school team in the first half too and we seen how that ended. The NCAA could be trying to flip someone and might not ever will get it done. The IRS can call and want their 30k too, but $cam and Daddy have enough money now to pay it off and case is closed. I want to see them burn like any other Bama brother/sister does but its not quite time to jump for joy just yet...

Ha! I fell for this one. Until I scrolled down. Good job!
He got me too. My jaw hit the keyboard.....lol

Hey neighbor, in Danny's defense that was before anyone including him knew they would go so far as to use secret witnesses and whatever means necessary to prove their case against us. He was right about the evidence.
He also didnt know our lawyers would be WORTHLESS and allow the testimony of the secret witnesses (which we didnt have to do). Our lawyers did nothing but kiss the NCAA's tail thinking it would help us out and it didnt do anything but dang near bury us...

Not a good bet IMHO when someone claims his friend of 25 years knows the NCAA has the bag man but yet doesnt think they can do enough with him to give more than a coin flip in odds that they'll nail them. Thats why I've said I'll wait before I rejoice and praise the Lord the barn has finally been busted.

I was listening to the Finebaum replay coming to work this AM, and there was this guy I forget his name, but he was the one talking about the Barn being under dogs in 7 of their games. He said they WOULD have a 9 win season. I am not sure I see that happening

I think that's reasonable. No less than 7 wins, but no more than 9. People act like they have nobody on their roster, but they've recruited well the last few years. They're not gonna win the West, but they aren't be like vandy.

Actually, we only consented to the use of one. The NCAA went ahead on their own and listened to three...

The B'ham news carried in depth the positive AU news from Sheridan yesterday predicting 9 wins and AU the best recruiters, ect... Today the news makes no comment about Sheridan's bombshell on Scam. In a backdoor tribute to the failures of the rumor mill, in the last paragraph of an article, they comment on the failed rumor of Scam getting free clothing from a Montgomery clothier.

Not sure if I put much credence in what Sheridan has said, but I do agree with SJC on the NCAA's determination of guilt or innocence. So I would guess 50/50 is about right.
