All I've said was let's not treat his comments like the Be All and End All, "the smoking gun." I don't think we ought to simply be acting like a faith-based religious argument ("Well, he told me what I want to hear to he MUST be right!").But don't you think it's a little ridiculous to form your opinion about Sheridan based on a sampling of one instance?
I didn't say he was wrong. I do remember actually getting my hopes up a little when he made those comments in 2001 about us. And as another poster said, even Sheridan couldn't know how it would play out.
One thing that has disturbed me in this whole mess is the amount of "hope they get popped" posts on here. Make no mistake - it appears really bad, and if Auburn is guilty of even half of what is alleged they should have the book thrown at them. But I sometimes get the idea that some of the fans here have this "whoo boy, I really hope they go down."
I don't base my allegiance to the UofA on the basis of what happens at Auburn. And I seriously don't think anyone else here does either - but posts that sound of glee and hoped for destruction really do sound that way sometimes.
Remember: even if/when they get stripped of their title they got what they wanted - they got to strut around in championship shirts and hoist the trophy, to point to the sky as #1. By the time the day of reckoning occurs, they will already be ex-champs anyway since they'll probably have a few losses early this year. That's why the stripping of the title is, well, appropriate but meaningless.
They will always have enjoyed it - and what do they care about 60 years from now when they're dead and gone?
The POSITIVE for us is that once this happens they can NEVER say they don't care or that they are "mythical" championships.
