Question: Ok what are your thoughts on the offensive line?

I know many of you are talking about switching groupings, but we had sacks and pressure at the beginning of the game as much as at the end of the game. I saw BJ get beat mulitiple times at LT. Maybe we can put him back at RG because we definitely couldn't run on the right side. Hopefully Cyrus or someone will establish themselves at LT. I'm sure we'll get better, but lets not overcomplicate things and put players in 3 different OL positions.

Yep. I'm ready to see our best 5 play together all game. I would hope BJ can be a great RG without moving all over. He is not our future at LT.

I'll echo pretty much what has already been said with the experimentation with the different groupings. Also, Nix is a stud with a real nose for the ball... He was #4 in FBS last year in TFL as a Freshman... Just behind a couple of highly touted guys named Bowers and Fairly... No slouch... We'll be OK once everything is set...

Me... I'm more worried about all of our DB's with hands like Freddie Roach... :)

Too soon to panic, but we shouldn't be getting whipped by a Mac team in the trenches.

My thoughts exactly, regardless of the all the comments about different groupings. I trust that the experimenting will play dividends.

I was more concerned with the 4 interceptions. I hope our QBs have got that out of their system and with the PROPER grouping get more protection or it will not be much fun in Happy Valley.

48-7 indicates that overall, we did not come close to getting whipped in the trenches or anywhere else to me.

The subject is the O-line, not our overall play. If a MAC team is sacking our QBs, forcing them into picks, and pretty much shutting down our running game, we probably have a problem. Trent Richardson is as good a RB as there is in the country and he was held to less than 3 yards per carry. THAT is a problem my friend.

The line wasn't impressive. We didn't manhandle this team the way we should. Cyrus looked good, and I think he will be starting by game 4, if not sooner. Hopefully, that makes a difference.

Exactly, last year we couldn't knock people off the ball and didn't yesterday as well. Penn State will be much tougher up front. Need to fix it fast. Still don't like running out of the pistol, too much of a finesse running game rather than a power game.

Our receivers still don't seem to get seperation like you would expect.

D was great though and will get even better.

I'm wondering how many complaining or worried here ever played O-line...

No matter the grouping, it takes time to 'gel' - you don't just throw five guys up there and they suddenly work together as a team, understanding how the guy beside him plays, his strengths and weaknesses.

It could be the 'worst' group you saw last night will actually be the best when they have a few weeks under their belts. Could end up being the best you've ever seen. You simply cannot make snap judgements when the line is being shuffled...

I'm not worried about the OL yet... I don't think... Although it has my attention. The one play that encapsulates my concern is when Alabama had the ball on the Kent State one-yard line. AJ tried a QB sneak for the TD and it was stuffed for no gain. That wouldn't surprise me if the opponent were LSU or Arky, but it did surprise me given the opponent was Kent State. Granted Bama scored on the next play, but still...

I don't mean to argue and I agree there moments that caused worry yesterday, but a few things are worth remembering.

1. KSU has a very capable defense. Nix is the real deal.
2. We were shuffling after the first few series.
3. At least half the picks were the fault of the QB or WR.
4. Receivers weren't that bad. Maze was open early and often. White, too.
5. If a team decides to load the box every play, it's going to cause problems, and that's what Kent State didi.

:BigA: Does everyone think they seen our best shot against Kent St. ? This game was just a tune up! Penn. St. still dont know anymore about what we are going to do than the fans. A lot of new faces got on the field and I am sure they had first game jitters with a 100,000 fans waatching on. The best is yet to come.

Yes, I was disappointed with the OL and there is certainly room for improvement, but I do think it was a matter of trial and error in trying to find a workable combination and getting as many players PT as possible. It will have to make a big improvement before Happy Valley game time or we could be in trouble.

C. Kwounjoe looked impressive at times, can't wait till he gets some experience under his belt...

This. I specifically watched Cyrus when he was in. Several times I saw him react like a seasoned vet to some stunts the KSU D-Line tried on us. I was impressed with the young man.

I'm not sure we can judge anything from yesterday which, for all intents and purposes, was basically a dress rehearsal to see what worked and what didn't.

I'm sure the coaches will pick the tapes apart with a fine tooth comb and make the best decisions (in terms of player positions - e.g. where is Barrett Jones going to stay put and what does that mean for the likes of someone like Cyrus Kouandjio) heading into PSU.

So much about OL play has to do not just with player skill, but also chemistry between the players. That will take a few games to gel.

Lacy didn't much need one either...love his spin move...and I loved his pseudo Linnie Patrick moment today.

Thank you..... It was killing me trying to come up with who Lacy reminds me of. Linnie Patrick. Let's break out the tear away jersys!

The line will be fine once they get the right grouping together.
