New coach search...

His responses lead me to believe Nick Saban has talked to him.
"Whatever you do, don't say you're not coming. Believe me. It will follow you."

I would guess if he has, it has been discretely. I would think he may have a chance to be the next AD if this works out. We've lost a long list of guys who were thought to be the successor to Mal over the years who got tired of waiting, but now we really have no one with the possible exception of Finus Gaston who could handle the job. I am not sure Finus wants the job.

Based on what I've heard I'm not sure we want Finus to have the job. :-)

He is a great administrator and there is probably no one who loves the University more, but you'd have to have someone handle the donors and PR. To be tactful, he would not be the person to do that part of the job.

If that scenario plan happens I'd advocate shutting down the program...

IOW

That ain't gonna happen.

Marshall might turn Bama down but the next guys on the list wouldn't. I'm of the opinion that there are still several coaches that would leap at the opportunity to come here and they'd likely be very successful. GM is not the beginning and the end of the list. Some people seem to be of the mindset that unless it is Marshall we'll fall off the face of the planet. It's beginning to get comical honestly.

^^This^^

A lot of us are just having fun. We know there are plenty of good coaches out there but right now we're in the want stage, so CGM name comes up more than others. The cool thing is No mean NO, unless you're looking for a coach during the season. Thing is, no one has even said NO yet.

You can't always get what you want

But if you try sometimes you just might find

You get what you need

And now the rumors are swirling that Coach Cal may be considering another move to the NBA.

Should that happen, it would be interesting to be in a coaching search at the same time as Kentucky LOL

Coach Cal may do it, but it would be a mistake. He, like Saban, are best in the college game. He has never been known as a great X and O game coach. He would be playing with talent that is much closer to the talent he will have. Why leave UK where he is paid very well and is the king of college basketball. I suspect UK will do everything they can to keep him there.

Maybe he is trying to stay one step ahead of the law?

This has a "Saban to the Browns" kind of feel. Great coach. Goes to NBA. Leaves the NBA and goes back to college. Becomes a legend.
Rumors about "he really wants to prove that he wasn't a failure in the N_ _."

But surely he likes the control offered in the college game. He is in charge and as long as he is coaching in college, he will be among the greatest.

It bothers him a lot that he is willing to try again. I think he can do it.

TIFWIW, a guy on another Bama board posted he was led to believe Marshall would go in deny mode (shut it down and say he's not leaving and was coaching his team) if asked about the Alabama job. As we've seen, that's not been the case.
