News Article: Shots fired at congressional softball game.

Too early to complain about the moron reporters? One said there are no vital organs in the area of the hip, as if it weren't terribly dangerous to be shot there in any case. Another said that despite no evidence, the GOP players there felt like they were targeted. Duh! They were being shot at, you idiot! I honestly don't know how these people have jobs. Are my standards too high or do these people need to get a clue and shut up until they do?

It's a miracle no one has died from this and at least a couple of victims aren't out of the woods yet. I hope for speedy and full recoveries for the victims.

I remember some of the local reporters here making me rage after the tornadoes that hit Tuscaloosa, Prattville, etc. Some of the questions they were asking these people made me want to punch them through the tv/radio. Don't remember too many exactly but do remember stuff along the lines of "so how do you feel now that your house is gone?"

A small gesture but still something nice:

Dem whip delivers pizzas to Scalise staffers

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s (R-La.) office received pizzas Wednesday from House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer’s (D-Md.) staff after the GOP leader was injured in a shooting at a congressional baseball practice earlier in the day.

Staffers for the Democratic whip were seen carrying several boxes of pizza to Scalise's office.

Maybe he was just stuck in a rut.

I chuckled when I heard the "hip" comment. I actually pulled my pants down and looked. Last week, I had injections in the hip for a failed hip replacement. The doctor outlined ever so carefully in purple, which is still there, my femoral artery, in order to stay far away from it. If the shot had severed the femoral, right by the hip joint, he would have bled out on the field before anything could be done...

Femoral artery was the first thing that popped to my mind when I heard about the wound. Depending on the type of round being fired and the distance it was fired from it could have splintered in the leg and it only takes 1 little shard piercing that artery for you to either bleed out right there or cause severe internal bleeding resulting is sepsis or other horrific things.

My favorite interview tactic is when the interviewer commands - "Talk more about this..." E.G. "You said earlier how the tornado sounded like a freight train passing through your house...talk more about that."
Is there a question in there somewhere, a-hole - or are you just going to give orders to people gracious enough to sit with you and give of their time, energy, and emotions? Even just phrasing it as "Could you talk more about the sound the tornado made as it got closer?" sounds 1000x better. So lazy. *Rant over.*

Many times it takes a tragedy to bring people together who otherwise would not. Never would I wish this to happen for that purpose (so don't misinterpret me). But maybe a silver lining in this is this may break down the walls of people who forget that those they oppose are people to, they are mothers, fathers, sons, flesh and blood. Just like them. I would love to see a joint press conference with someone from each party standing in unison declaring "There's nothing the previous regime or this regime has done that should lead anyone to violence. It's time to get back to civility and it starts with us."

Now, I highly doubt this happens but I'm telling you it would go a long ways in calming this ever increasing volatile political landscape that's sweeping this country.

During the Today Show coverage of a plane crash in Pittsburgh, I remember Bryant Gumbel asking the on-the-scene journalist, "Can you see an body parts?" Truly a high point for American journalism.

i sincerely hope the reporter answered "can you see this body part gumbel?"

Steve Scalise has now had 3 operations and remains in critical condition. :frown: Tyson lobbyist Matt Mika also remains in critical condition. :frown:

Not too optimistic but what if this really is a turning point for how congress works together going forward.

So good to see this ball game happening tonight.

Shouldn't take a tragedy but that's another discussion for another day....

What the idiot reporter also apparently failed to realize when downplaying the shot to the hip is that a gunshot travels through the body. If it misses the femoral then there are still the iliac arteries. The penis, the bladder, and lord the intestines and all that cesspool of infection waiting to be unleashed. But if it takes the wrong path it can also hit the aorta, the spine, the liver, and other ABD organs. And that's if it doesn't careen into the chest. Bullets don't follow any roads. They make their own path. Shattering a bone takes away momentum and sometimes saves a life.

Hey I saw Nicolas Cage take two gunshots to the knee and get right back up and carry someone on his back. It has to be true because it was a war movie.

Not to make light of this situation in anyway whatsoever but this was an amusing slip of the tongue.

The game today drew 24,959 people a new record (game dates back to 1909). It outdrew MLB games in Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, and MN.

The killer had a hit list in his pocket

The list was written out on notepad paper and found in the shooter’s pocket, according to multiple sources with intimate knowledge of the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. The list of names included Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan and Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, TheDC has confirmed. Fox News reported after this story that Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, Tennessee Rep. Scott DesJarlais and Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith are also on the list. All six congressmen are members of the House Freedom Caucus, which contains the lower chamber’s most conservative members.
