I think the only way Tua plays against Clemson is if Jalen gets hurt or we're completely shut down on offense and need to make a drastic change. I hope neither of those happens.
I do think we'll see a different game plan in the playoffs - one that features Damien and Bo and not a lot of runs by Jalen. We'll use the run to set up the pass and, hopefully, throw some quick passes rather than the long-developing passes we tried in the Iron Bowl. Maybe we'll even throw to the TE every now and then. Imagine that.

Jalen has lost 2 games in 2 yrs, got to Championship last yr, to playoff so far this yr, really? We need to change QB's? Man I know we bama fans want perfection but this is the craziest thing I have ever heard. Say you toss in TUA do you really think he is really ready to play at a higher level than 2 yr starter with only 2 losses against 2 top 5 teams, with 2 playoff appearances? Man I want what you guys are drinking or smoking. It must be grade A prime stuff.
Step back and really look at what you are saying. Jalen is not perfect, hey guess what news flash NO ONE IS. Tua looks great, he has done well in clean up of beaten down defenses. That is far cry from playing well in a play off game, with top flight healthy rested defenses. Tua has not one time been put in a spot to put the smallest amount of pressure on him. There is no way to know how he will react, he may do well but that is a BIG gamble when the starter has done nothing but win all but 2 games in 2 yrs. WOW JUST WOW. I guess it is true the best QB is the unseen BACKUP arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think it's more to do with how the staff views Tua and his ability to run the first string. From what I understand, he gets more reps than your typical second string
No one is saying Jalens getting replaced, the discussion is about him being ready and contributing in any shape or form that may be needed and if the staff sees it necessary. The only one stating this is you.It's a simple discussion......smh

Just find it funny is all, I have never seen a fanbase so ready to replace a Qb with his record at any school at any time. I like discussions, but this is based on such crazy stuff. I look back over our Qbs since Saban arrival and this kid is in elite company. Just weird why so many think he is such a bust that they feel he needs to be replaced with unproven backup. Never heard this about others who's records were comparable. True freshman got to National Title game, put us ahead with hardly any time left, and we lost it on defensive play. Then as true sophomore has reached the play off. I guess anything less than a NC every year now is reason to call for replacement. Really does that sound like a discussion sane fans have about their QB? Just asking, seems a little premature to me. Call me crazy i just do not see him as a negative.

Did Hurts go 25-2 over the last two years, or did the team go 25-2? I keep seeing Hurts' starting record brought up like it is some hugely relevant point, but I just don't think it is. We have amazing players at every position on the field, and I'm willing to bet that the other 21 starters on the team had more to do with getting us to the Championship game last year than a true freshman QB did. If you could demonstrate where our record and play has greatly improved or regressed with Hurts in or out of the game, you might have a point. But Alabama has been going 12-0 or 11-1 in the regular season every single year since 2007 with the exception of 2010. Tua is also not a completely unknown quality. He has substantial playing time this season, more than any other backup QB Saban has had at Bama. Sure it was usually after we were 2-3 scores ahead, but he still played very well and has played with the starters. In fact, besides the pick 6 I think Tua outplayed Hurts in the Tennessee game. Notice no one is introducing the unkown quality of Mac Jones into this discussion. The question is who on our roster can get the most out of this offense. It could be Hurts, it could be Tua. But what we have seen is Hurts superman our offense into a one-dimensional trick.
I think he is one of the best players on the team. I REALLY wish he'd stay another year to help our secondary, but I bet he goes to NFL early as 1st round pick.

Answer this honestly, "Are you satisfied with our 3rd down conversion rates in big games under JH?"
You understand that as good as Bama is, if we don't have the simple ability to complete short throws to convert on 3rd down we don't beat anybody that's in the playoff.
We can hand the ball to D. Harris 25-30 times in the game and it still won't be enough if we can't complete some critical throws. This is a minimum that our QB MUST be able to do.
This doesn't even account for the fact that if we want to win these game in anything other than a nail bitter we also need the QB position to hit some big, explosive passes that tend to go for 6.
To put it simply, if JH plays like he did against Auburn in the passing department, we don't win against Clemson.
I really think this is a good discussion that probably needs to be had, but can't we do this another time?
I think it's a good discussion but I don't see any reason why now is not a correct time frame to have it as it does discuss and interject points that will be important in the Clemson game. It's not just about the qb in the discussion but also about execution, offensive philosophy and adjustments
The thread is 56 pages long with 716 replies - I don't think we can put the cork back in the bottle at this point.
The discussion was started once we lost the game to Auburn and our chances of playing in a meaningful post-season game had diminished exponentially. But the cat is out of the bag. There will be a fire-storm of talk about this until the first pass is thrown next season and the way Hurts plays in this next game, good or bad, is only going to lead to further hypotheticals and theory positing.
Yeah, the thread started with the feeling we were out of the CFP this year. Now that's changed, but the narrative really is now more intense in the here and now.
The discussion now rightly turns to what adjustments we make in CFP now that we are in.
I'd be fine if the mods started this discussion again in a new thread but the discussion will continue down the path of "what do we do at QB in the playoff."
We might as well be discussing it because we aren't players and I'm pretty sure the coaches are asking some of the same questions.
