Pretty sure the staff will recognize that our O line cannot, on a consistent basis, beat their D line man on man. They`ll have to scheme around that somehow. In a situation like this, I personally don`t know enough of the intricacies of the game to know what`s available from a tactics and strategy standpoint to do so. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable posters can fill us in on this.

We should do whatever it was Clemson did to us last year when we had an all world D line and still got beat.

Actually there's some truth to that. Bama DL had depth issues and clemson wore them out with pass rushing and quick screens. clemson DL may be best in nation this year, but their depth has been an issue at times. Getting them gassed is a good idea. Of course that's easier to do with Deshaun Watson taking snaps.

That might be an approach. I would think that in order to do so you would have to make them run laterally as opposed to right straight at them. You would also have to hold onto the ball ( 3rd down conversions ) enough to make it work.

That is exactly what Clemson will do. We have got to pass efficiently against Clemson in order to run on them. I just have some questions. In less than four weeks will Hurts be able to make the right reads? Can he see the whole field rather than homing in on one receiver? Can he stand in there under pressure and deliver a strike instead of taking off running at the first glimpse of an orange jersey? Can he make quick decisions and get rid of the ball quickly? Hurts has struggled against good defense. Clemson probably has the best defense in the country. Consistent three downs and out is going to wear down our defense like last year. I wouldn't put all the pressure on Hurts. I think the best chance to defeat Clemson is to play Hurts and Tua.

I absolutely think you are on to something with Tua. I’ve watched so film on Clemson and the way to beat them is with the pass. Tua could shred them IF (and that’s a HUGE IF) he didn’t get overwhelmed with the pressure because they come at the QB a LOT. When they do the corners and the middle of the field are very vulnerable. If we had OJ still I see a win but it is Jalen’s weakest area as a passer. It seems to be Tua’s strength. That said there are also massive running lanes as we saw in both games. They key is 3rd down. If JH struggles like last year Tua will play. Bama has 17 in its grasp last year but couldn’t extend drives. I don’t think CNS will allow that to happen again.

I agree that our offense will have to win this game for us. Change the plan by running the ball with the RB more, give Jalen or maybe Tua some passes they can make instead of the long developing pass. Try the pick play at least once to see how the refs react.

2) Notice how Jalen makes quick passes decisively and on time.

3) Notice how we had several misdirection plays (including the TD to Jacobs)

The players seem to lose concentration and begin to make sloppy mistakes. I'd rather go at a methodical pace and ensure everyone "gets ready" before taking off on another play. Going fast is only effective if the play results in a positive outcome.

You're being nice. They were against inferior defenses. The moment we went up against a legitimate defense the entire offense struggled.

I would hope that we see use of the play clock until the magic formula for moving the ball is found. Going fast and not converting 3rd downs doesn't do the defense any favors.

I just hope we don't have a repeat of the Ole Miss game from a couple of years ago where we waited until we were in a hole before bringing in Coker and came up short.

It seems that playcalling has been in a bit of a rut. Jalen isn't going through his progressions as well. I don't know why.

This is where my concern arises. I hope we develop a game plan that can work. Our pass protection to me seems a little off. I just want this win so bad. RTR

I disagree. People said the same thing about AU and we were averaging 8 YPC with our RBs but Damien only had about 6 carries. If Damien got 25 carries vs AU we win that game. If Damien gets 25 carries vs Clemson then we'll win. Their front 7 is very good but we can have success if the running plays are direct downhill power runs instead of the slow developing finesse variety. The way to beat a talented, aggressive front 7 like this is to attack them with the power running game. I seriously doubt we take this approach but there's all the evidence in the world that it would work if we're committed to it. I'll take my chances all day long if Damien gets 25 carries, Jacobs gets 15 carries and then about 15 passing attempts from Jalen instead of what we've been doing in games like this which is 5 carries for Damien, 3 for Jacobs and 25 pass attempts from Jalen. IMO, going into the game with a mindset of being committed to the running game is a much lower risk / higher reward gameplan than attempting 25-30 pass attempts..
