If you think about it, it wasn't the easiest year he's had. All of the injuries, offense struggling at times. And those friggin injuries . . . and he STILL won the national championship. Totally agree, these upgrades are the perfect example of the rich getting richer. LOL. RTR.
Haha fair enough but my imagination is running a little wild with how good this offense could be. I'm already dreaming of a Heisman, National Championship, and record breaking scoring numbers from this offense.Nah....we never temper expectations around here
This was the most important title that he's won, IMO. Georgia was set to take over if they had won the game. The media had already discussed the narrative of the torch being passed. Instead, we ripped their hearts out in their own back yard and the Death Star keeps moving on. I have no doubt that the team has a great chance to get back to the Playoff and win it again within the next two years. Especially with so much young talent on offense and the way we continue to recruit. The staff upgrades are very impressive, too. Yes, Georgia will be a force in the east and the competition is always tough in the SEC but the path to the Playoff still goes through Tuscaloosa.
I really hope this staff can, for the most part, stay intact for 2 or 3 years...especially at the coordinator level and some of the key recruiters. I know we have and will always have guys coming and going, but it feels like we've been in a really heavy state of transition since 2015 championship. This looks like a good young, hungry, recruiting-saavy staff, hopefully with fewer of them on the verge of getting that next big opportunity, at least for now.
There is an article on al.com by Rainer Sabin as to the influence that Enos will have on our QB situation. It is an interesting article. I would link it, but I on't know how. Maybe someone can. My summary of the article as I understand it, is that Tua will be the MAN next year.
Personally I think that this is a very clear message to the rest of the college football world that if you thought CNS was done, well, you were wrong. This may be his best staff ever.
And the hirings away from PSU and Michigan also send one heck of a message. Hiring guys from Texas Tech and UTSA are one thing, but to bring in guys from other power house programs at comparable positions on the staff says a lot about how powerful this program has grown under Coach Saban.

I thought that was a very interesting article with some good information about Enos , good read
Enos did some really good things at Arkansas considering the mostly average talent he had to work with. I remember Austin Allen threw for 400 yards against us in 2016 and they won that wild overtime game against Ole Miss in 2015 that was really high scoring. They did beat Ole Miss four years in a row so there's that. If he can do that with Arkansas recruits I'm very excited to see what he does with the cream of the crop at Alabama.
It will be interesting, there's a lot of offensive minds on staff. I'm curious as to if our offensive identity will follow the articles predictions
I truly believe he was brought in to guru the quarterbacks. We really haven't had a good QB coach since McElwain or Nussmeier. What about Kiffin, most would say, right? I'd say his reputation has been that of a scheme designer and playcaller who can maximize whatever talent and ability his quarterback already has but not much of a developer of quarterbacks. The knock on many of the USC quartebacks he groomed were that they had natural ability but they weren't the whiteboard savants NFL quarterbacks need to be to succeed. We went without a coach with much experience in quarterback coaching in 2017 too. Daboll and Locksley were both more skills position coaches than quarterback guys. I think the wall Hurts hit this year was a wake up call to Coach.

We were looking for a dedicated quarterbacks coach to cover for a relative deficiency in this staff makeup prior to Enos' hire. Tight End will likely be split up between Locksley/Gattis and Key...and that's fine. If you can't have a top-tier playcaller who can just take raw quarterback talent and lift up the offense then you probably need to priortize development and execution from the quarterback. It says something when a QB who has been starting for 2 seasons is not seeing the field...and Saban knew it.

Actually, Lane had never been a QB coach prior to coming to Alabama. Believe Norm Chow and then Sark had those responsibilities at USC.
Not sure Freeze and Enos are connected in anyway. Saban wanted Enos a few years ago form what I've been told. The no compete clause in his contract was the hold up. Nick is buddies with Freeze and really admires what he does on offense. I suspect n analyst position is still not out of question for Freeze.
I believe that is right. I want to say CLK's primary responsibilities while at USC under Carroll as the HC and Chow as the OC was as the WR coach.
Very interesting article, and suggests to me that Saban is clearly signaling that the "sandlot" era of Alabama offenses is over, and it will now be "back to business' with a pro-style offense - the style that has won all 6 of Saban's NC's.
It also makes me wonder if the decision to go "sandlot" in 2016 was as much (or more) Kiffin's decision as Saban's?
Or maybe its just a sign that Saban has accepted that Tua is the future, and is building his staff accordingly?
It was out of necessity. There wasn't a QB on staff that could run the offense efficiently. Look what happened when they transferred. Not one of them won the starting job at the school where they transferred. The staff simply missed on the QB recruitment of those players or they never developed. Jalen was the best and really only option. So the offense had to be tailored around what he could do successfully.
