Didn't see a thread dedicated to fall camp.

If you haven't done so, check out Kyallie's "Latest Bama News" sticky thread which contains many articles, tweets, pics and CNS's news conference about yesterday's first practice.

So now that we are into camp, let's enjoy and discuss!

My take from day one is how relaxed and optimistic CNS seemed at the press conference. He was very happy with the player's summer conditioning and really praised how fit they were for fall camp.

I watched the Rodney Orr reflections from day one and he noted the same thing about the "look" the team had. He really praised the new young outside LBs too.

Re: Fall Camp News/Reactions/Thoughts

I scanned though some stuff earlier but I was multitasking while my ADD was running wild so I can't remember much...lol

I plan on reading and watching some vids later and paying closer attention.

I confess the main thing I went to read about was the QB situation knowing full well I wouldn't find out anything other than Tua and Jalen repping like Co-QB1's!!!.....lol

But yeah I'm excited to see how the OL comes together along with how the Secondary positions shake out with so many guys pushing for playing time back there.

Oh and I look forward to hearing anything about Jaylen Waddle. Apparently he's impressed everyone BIGTIME already. I won't be shocked if he gets a shot a PR at least if not KR too.....and maybe the #4 WR spot.

Just ready and hoping we don’t have two obnoxious factions this year centered around the QBs

I'm most interested to see how the secondary develops. No denying the talent is there, but are the brains ready? Can the players transition into being instinctual with the new information quickly? Going against Louisville is a good test for those guys.

I think the folks on this board are going to get behind whoever plays the position this year. Honestly, seeing how Saban was willing to make the QB change in the GA game, I am not as worried about who starts against Louisville. He will play whoever gives you the best chance to win when it matters.

Time to trust Saban and let him work his magic.

The more serious issue is not the fans getting behind the QB CNS goes with, but the team.

Two things you'll note:

1. Nothing significant about the QB situation, except Tua's injury is fully healed and it's obvious in the short vids he's throwing the ball with lots of zip.

2. Orr said he really expects Waddle is going to work himself into the mix, despite the deep returning receiving core. Said he expects he makes a splash in the return game too. He also noted the big (6'5") Texas kid (Shavers IIRC) who redshirted last year. Said, he provides a different look to the rest of the guys.

Re: Fall Camp News/Reactions/Thoughts

I'm high on the potential secondary this season even though I know a lot of people have it targeted as a possible weak point early.

Deionte Thompson is a BALLER..... just a beast. Diggs has a lot of real game expierience. McKinney had a good spring and has been getting some pre-season positive buzz.

Shyheim Carter and Jared Mayden have made big strides and could factor in some Dime/Nickel packages....

Savion Smith could be ready to really push for spot too.

Some young dynamic FR are coming in like Josh Jobe and Jalyn Armour-Davis and don't forget about Kyriq McDonald.

But most exiting of all is Patrick Surtain is getting early comparisons to Minkah!!!

It might take a few games but I think by mid-season things will really come together back there.

Re: Fall Camp News/Reactions/Thoughts

Bama has not had both a new OC and DC before in the same year, correct? I know these coaches are intelligent and I trust Saban, but it will be interesting to see how the co-ordinators make play calls during game situations.

At least they will have 2 games to get used to it before we play at Ole Miss (which will be more difficult than Louisville and Arkansas State). I expect they will do a great job though.

I am also interested in seeing how much play time Mac Jones gets in games.

Re: Fall Camp News/Reactions/Thoughts

What are the expectations from Dylan Moses this year?
I think he's going to have a MONSTER breakout season. I expect he will lead the team in TFL's , Sacks, and Total Tackles....worst maybe 2nd to Mack Wilson in a few of those categories. But still....

He's going to become a household name soon imho. His speed and nose for the ball is unreal.

I mean he didn't get much playing time until right near the end of the season and had 30 Tackles and 5.5 TFL's, 1 sack, 1FF and 1 INT.

He was 6th on the team in TFL's and Sacks combined..... for how little he played that's unreal.

JMO, but the first time to have new coordinators on both sides of the ball is much to do about nothing.

Tosh knows the system, which is CNS's. Don't see any major change there.

New OCs have so much talent that you and I could call plays and win 9 games this year.

Having said that how much of the time will both be on the field and what will the result be? Especially when/if Lewis returns I'd expect we'll probably see a lot of blitz from the LB's considering the age/experience of the secondary.

Tosh Lupoi was impressive to me in the Spring game. He was very intense and aggressive (well as aggressive as you can be in the spring game).... but he looks the part.

I think he'll be way closer to Pruitt than Kirby.

The Offense could be just flat scary good. Locksley, Enos, and Gattis are a three headed braintrust I feel very confident about.

Enos is a HELL of a QB whisperer and Gattis was the 'Passing Game CO'/WR Coach as PSU and they were 23rd in Passing Offense last year.....by comparison we were 91st last year.

Tua and the WR's are going to LIGHT defenses UP!!!

The coordinator points are legit. We will just have to wait and see how that plays out. On the offensive side of the ball I don't expect much change from last year other than a higher level of execution from the QB position. On the defensive side of the ball, even a small change in philosophy can make a huge difference. Pruitt's play calling was far superior to Smart's. I think that it is reasonable to expect a step back there.

Couldn't disagree more! Assuming Tua is the guy the offensive play calling is going to be as different as the first half against Georgia with Jalen and the second half with Tua.

Herbstreit noted in the second half of the NC game that Daboll had every play at his disposal with Tua under center. The obvious inference was he was handcuffed with Jalen.

Maybe - or maybe the same plays were being called and not executed by Jalen. The formations were the same. The personnel varied as the game went along. Maybe the ply calls were different. Not sure. It just seemed to me that the same plays were called but with a QB who knew how to execute them.

Well they are unknowns right now that's true. I agree.

But the significantly improved passing game is going to get people out of the box which will in turn open up the running game and make us truly 2-dimensional again with defenses either picking a poison or flat out backpeddling and guessing.

I agree that's it more than likely Tosh won't be at Pruitt's level right away or anything. I just think he'll be closer to Pruitt in style and strategic aggressiveness and opposed to Kirby's spectrum of reckless to overly safe/prevent with no in-between.
