I'd always rather have the commitment than have to try to flip -- especially if the kid committed to the home school that he grew up rooting for.

But you're right....even if he commits to us in the next few weeks, it'll be far from over.
This staff has done an excellent job of keeping portal hoppers and commit flippers to a bare minimum.

Kaawa recruiting major assist to Galu. dont sleep on this kid ( no wont play for 3 years but neither did Mac or Ty )

Only one other recruitment to watch through August and I still stand by my bama move for Tank. ( Golden too but imo still likely ND)

We will be looking at guys this fall for senior year evaluations especially at OT. The staff may get to the point portal is a better option.

So are there any possibilities for snagging any big DT's. I know it's been said Ruffin from Bessemer is not an option. Seems like we need some considering we lose Keenan and maybe James Smith after this year.

Our QB recruiting, aside from the surprising DB streak we are on, is proof that the skill players are buying what CKD is selling! A deep QB room is a must these days! Certainly, some will probably fall by the wayside each year and keeping a skilled guy around (the way Mac did) is the difference in a NC or no. Hope that translates this year with TS!!!

It is not clear that the new coaching staff wants big DTs. It seems like they prefer speed over size

Video of Kaawa. Downright impressive considering who's in front of him at Bama (Russell).

The footwork and throw out of his own endzone at about the 3:00 minute mark shows his poise and vision under pressure!

At the end the guy in this video makes a "big" comparison to a former Bama QB's throwing motion.

Very impressive!!!

Golden push back his commitment date. Some speculate that he's thinking really hard about his choice. I still believe it's ND in the end.
Kaawa is a hidden gem and I think too many of our fans are sleeping on him. Look for his rankings to rise once he commits to Bama as well as more top programs taking notice.

I agree somewhat about speed over size , but I also think DeBoer is a patient coach who believes in development and finding the right prospect to fit his schemes. If you look at his last recruiting class and the current 2026 class, we have Edge/ DE players with the potential to play inside and become DT.
Wilson was a big pick up and he doesn't need to add that much more as he's listed at 260 lb and he's not even done with HS! Johnson is listed at 262 lbs at Edge, but he's more like a DT once he gets into the program. Finch will be a monster once he lives up to his true potential and he's already at 260 lb.
Keenan and Mboumoua are the only DT we have that are over the 300 mark. James Smith is very close to the mark a swell.
Beaman gained 40 pounds since he arrived and is now listed at 314 lbs. I haven't seen him lately so we will know more as the season approaches.

We should probably clarify what 'big' means. While I agree that I don't think they'll go to T Cody types, at UW the 3 deep at the DT/NT spots were all over 300 with several over 310, so still 'big', just not HUGE. Seeing the new roster weights, it would seem that we still have that preference of 'big' as guys seem to be moving in that direction. I don't think it's much of a shift for us really. Recently we've had way more A Robinson, D Tomlinson, Q Williams, D Reed, C Barmore, and J Allen types who were mostly in the 300-315 range versus the T Cody types.

One really concerning stat for Kawaa is his int's. 9 is high so he needs to work on his accuracy. He does look good otherwise and will be a nice addition.
