I said before the season that Jones was going to blow some people's minds and I'm happy that was correct. If he keeps this up he can punch his ticket as a Heisman finalist...
I clearly remember you saying this leading up to the season. You seemed so sure of it that I assumed you had solid covert intel from someone inside the organization.

You were right, though. The DB blitz set up that mismatch. DB blitzes are risky if the QB sees it coming and has time to get the ball out. Sadly, the play was coming to that side of the field, so the QB saw it coming. DB blitzes are very effective if the first read by the QB is on the opposite side of the field as the blitz, giving the DB time to get there.
What is the proper defensive move there? Should the safety have come over quicker? Should #8 have jammed the back at the LOS? I remember us doing this with Kenyan Drake against UF and the result was the same...not even close.

If the LB does not move over on his own then the DB should have moved over into coverage. You can't give away your blitz. A DB blitz is too dangerous for obvious reasons if the QB knows that it is coming. And if the ILB swings all the way over to the sideline into coverage, the QB knows that it is coming.

If you can't "sneak" him over there, you call off the blitz.

Obvious...LB's cannot cover an RB in that much space...Thanks.

I wonder if Everyone know Harris used play as CB in high school? He just mistimed his jumping.. had he stuck with his man, he probably would have a small chance.
Yeah, he seemed to get out of his scootch technique a little late. They may have to put him in that situation again this week so he can practice.

I can't remember if he tried to jam him, but when a QB sees a LB (no matter his athleticism) on a WR that's his first read. Harris should have know it was likely going to be a fly route and IMO he should have tried to stay in phase with him until he made a move to catch the ball, but when he tried to jump to knock it down he was out of position. Even a faster receiver on a LB will likely have to adjust to the ball and the Georgia receiver had to slow down a little if IIRC. That's when Harris could have made a play on the ball and/or tried to strip it or tackle him.

I do remember that he played DB/safety in HS. But I think his body has been sculpted into an ILB. He may be able to cover in the middle of the field, where he has some help. But covering a fly pattern on his own down the sideline was a mistake.

Falcons winning 20-0 right now pending another collapse
Can the Braves please win tonight!? Its hard rooting for Jawja teams.(Braves are the only ones I root for.) Kings of choking. MVFree Feddie deserves to at least play for a World Series!
I grew up as Dallas being Americas team...but not really into the NFL honestly..just like seeing Bama players do work.

I think it's going to be hard to beat Lawrence with the stupid numbers they put up. But if Mac can continue the pace he's on right now he'll have a real chance!
it is EASY to put up numbers like he has when you play NOBODY every game every year, lets see him light up a real team that has had an easy schedule as they have..............by the time any sec team gets to the end of the year they are beat us as all get out.

There's a story up on al.com that says Kirby's team looks like the old Bama teams that Saban moved on from. Kiffin's newfangled type offense is something Kirby hasn't benefitted from.

I said that last night. We were playing Bama 2009. With a worse QB and Coach.

Looking at his highlights, he (they) are playing against air...

Oh I feel the exact same. Same thought with all the Oklahoma Heisman winners.

If Trevor Lawrence were a first year starter without all the hype and had put up the numbers he has so far (good numbers to be sure, but against bad teams) and he was going up against Mac Jones he would not be the Heisman frontrunner. Lawrence is benefiting from past hype.

Trevor Lawrence had his first 400 yard game on Saturday. Mac Jones had his third in a row Saturday against a better defense than Lawrence has ever seen. Lawrence is good, but the hype is ridiculous.

Lawrence's QB rating against ranked teams is not super impressive. Mac Jones has been much, MUCH better when going against good teams.

Trevor Lawrence against ranked teams (5 games)
94/153 for 1170 yards, 9 TDs, no INTs (234 yards a game)
QB rating of 145.08

Mac Jones against ranked teams (4 games)
86/123 for 1514 yards, 15 TDs, 4 INTs (378 yards a game)
QB rating of 207.08
Trevor Lawrence has had 3 TDs against a ranked team once

Mac Jones has had 3 or more TDs in every game against a ranked team

Mac Jones has more INTs, which is the only thing you can complain about. However, two of those were tipped balls and the other hit the receiver. Only one of those was a bad throw.
