Top 10 is a little high for this team. 15-18 range is about right. We’re a good team that can be elite or bust on certain nights.
I hope they do. The question is, are we just this good, or are we really what we were earlier and we've just hit a lull?If they learn from this it will have been worth it.
It depends on the effort/leadership from practice to game. The talent is there, but hasn't matured yet. There is still work to do. This team has not peaked yet and this coach is not the last several coaches. This team beat Houston and Gonzaga, yet loses to Iona and Davidson. Two teams that don't have a prayer of getting beyond the 1st weekend of the tournament.
I don't know what to make of it except ability gets you only so far. At some point, you actually have to put it together on the court.
As I said earlier, it seems to me teams have us scouted really well and are able to force us into their style of play. We are not dictating the pace or flow of the games over the last 3 or so outings. It's become a trend.
I know we don't like doom and gloom and I'm no trying to be that. I'm just coming to terms with the reality that seems to be, which is that we are not a deep run tourney team after all.
JD looks the part.Well I went from sunshine pumping this team to this 3 game stretch. Like I said after the Memphis game coach is young and still learning too. But this team needs to get some toughness. I don't think JQ is the answer for starting at point and maybe JD should. But goodness we need to grab rebounds and learn to play d down low. Hopefully we see some tweaks for SEC play or it could be an interesting year.
I agree. Last season was similar, except we have bigger wins in this year's non-con schedule. We really came of age in the conference schedule last year.It depends on the effort/leadership from practice to game. The talent is there, but hasn't matured yet. There is still work to do. This ... they will be fine. The leaders will have to learn to set the tone early on in the game. Still think we are the favorite in the SECIt depends on the effort/leadership from practice to game. One thing I know for certain is Gurley should not be shooting 3s. I don't care what the philosophy is. His awful looking brick late in the game is what led to their run to take back to a 10 point lead, which somehow we rallied back from.JQ just not being agressiveto the basket. We can't rebound at all. Gurley is a liability. His shooting is terrible and he turns the ball over way to much. Need to try someone else. Bediako is not tough enough. At least Rojas is tough.
The team has to get more aggressive in every phase, from attitude to rebounding to defense to plain ole hustle when the ball goes into the backcourt. That single "play" was the difference - just let a man hustle back for an easy basket.I agree. Last season was similar, except we have bigger wins in this year's non-con schedule. We really came of age in the conference schedule last year.
It's an ongoing process. We will improve. I don't think we are the best team in the conference right now, as I did a couple of weeks ago, but we can be by the season's end.
JD taking 4 shots want cut it. He needs 8 to 10 . We seem to play only one big man Bediako in games. We have these other bigs on the bench but don't use them. The D is bad period. I like Gurley but he's slow and doesn't fit this system at all. This team has to be tired late in games also. Other than Holt playing a couple minutes tonight it was 8 guys again. We have some tough games in the SEC and I'm a little worried. I don't really see a team leader out there. No one like Herb last year. I'm hoping when Rojas gets back we are a little better defensively. I believe he will help with the rebounding. This team beat Houston and Gonzaga, yet loses to Iona and Davidson. Thought that’s what the near loss to Jax State on Saturday should have doneIf they learn from this it will have been worth it.
He's still a young coach. Still learning (hopefully).I can’t wait to see a CNO coached team in 2035. Tough, disciplined, unselfish, high IQ team ball. Not being sarcastic. We still have no defensive identity (remove Herb Jones last year and we still don’t). He’s still relying too much on talent and percentages. That doesn’t win game like this. That’s now 3 very winnable games this year he was greatly outcoached and the other team easily dictated how the game was played. And that includes Penny, who is arguably the poo game coach in D1. Larry Brown likely encouraged PH to go with the veterans in the Memphis game and their experience with each other took over. Oats has won some big games already but guys like Coach K kniw how to avoid losses in these games. They came in as the #4 3-pt shooting team in the country and they had their best night of the season, going 12-24. Sigh.
Hopefully the lessons will take this time.Thought that’s what the near loss to Jax State on Saturday should have done
