I get those as well. They even think I am female. I texted "stop" a couple times but they keep coming but not too often.

I got a couple texts from a Democrat in Wisconsin asking for support.
A few years ago I got a text reminding me to vote - and asking me which candidate I was supporting; it was clearly from the Democrats (it said so), and I wrote back something along the lines of "picking between these two is like deciding whether I want cancer or AIDS" - and they actually typed back and asked which "other" candidate I was supporting.

Even when you type "STOP", it never stops.

" The divide fell sharply along partisan lines, with 87 percent of voters who supported former President Trump in 2020 indicating they view the media is a major threat"

Right out of the tyrants playbook. Try to discredit the media so that you can spout lies unchecked.

I think the media is a threat and I'm no Trump supporter. All the news channels in this country lean to one side or the other, there is nothing balanced and just the facts. There are way to many opinion shows on all our news networks. When you have to look to foreign news organizations for a more balanced view on American events, then you know the American media is in trouble.

The main stream media may 'lean' left in many cases but still remain facts based. Places like Fox are unabashedly far right and spread lies whenever convenient.

The last election I got spammed bad by both parties.
A week after the election, I got a text message from a number I did not recognize, asking me to "join my daughter the local military school" to listen to Senator Kaine speak for Veterans' Day. Thinking is was from a zombie political campaign, I texted back, "I do not think I'll be joining Senator Kaine for his speech. Stop wasting my data." (I was in Europe at the time and data can be expensive here).
Turns out, the text was from a high school friend whose daughter really did work for Senator Kaine.
Oops.

This is probably not a good sign.
Two Americas Index: Democracy deniers
A significant minority (42%) of Republicans believe "strong, unelected leaders are better than weak elected ones." (31% of Democrats)

Not to be outdone, a significant minority of Democrats (also 42%) believe "Presidents should be able to remove judges whose decisions go against the national interest." (29% of Republicans)

And to be equal opportunity nimrods, significant minorities of both parties (38-39%) believe "government should side with the majority over ethnic/religious minority rights."

When I say, "a plague on both your houses," this is what I mean.

Both sides have lost their minds. It may not be equal, but both have lost their way.

Agree, both parties are really only about self-interest and staying in power.

True statesmen and stewards of this country would not allow us to get $31T in debt, would not allow 1M people die from a novel virus, would not stand for mass shootings, would not stand for barring personal healthcare autonomy, would not stand for disallowing reasonable right/means to vote, would not stand for a flagrant attempt to overthrow the government, and would not ignore the willful and intentional acts to compromise our national security.

one party has been making good faith attempts at dealing with all of those things for quite a while. the other has nothing to offer that would change any of those things, and more than that they largely don't think those things are actually problems.

One might expect, given this news, that the media and political narratives about the US economy and the Biden presidency would be strongly positive. Instead, current media coverage of both is almost comically negative and pessimistic. One reads daily that we are mired in an economic malaise redolent of the 1970s, with Joe Biden’s presidency on the brink of Carter-esque failure. Headlines about the dire threat from single-digit inflation dominate the front pages, and polls suggest voters are more pessimistic about the economy than at any point in decades.

What explains this massive disconnect between the economic reality and the popular narrative? Undoubtedly, a key reason is that the pandemic continues to rage across the country. Yet, one must also look to two other key factors for the entire story: media cues and framing effects, and a failure to seriously benchmark the US economy to other rich countries’ experience.

maybe I’m just too cynical, but I’m just not sure how much good faith there is in either group. All I know is I just want to Trump to go to Mars in a Space X rocket so I never have to hear or see him again

yeah, i get that. but there have been a lot of really good things done legislatively and via executive order in the past year and a half that are going to go a long way in making things better on several fronts for our nation.

Nobody watches the news to hear anything good anymore. So even the networks that support him likely still have to trend negative to maintain ratings.

You can't rely on the cable or network news to give you reliable assessments of current issues. Print media while fading is pretty much the only remaining source of reliable assessment and even then you probably have read 2 or 3 articles to boundary of the issue.
