The other catch to the entire deal is that when you are gone as long as Ipswich was from PL, you have to bring up your arena up to PL standards - and that costs the bulk of the money you get for promotion. If we can get back to PL quickly, it will be easier next go around.
As long as Ipswich can hang on to McKenna, I think they go right back up, and maybe even stay.

And I think that's the key.

He was rumored headed for Manchester United (and later Chelsea) almost immediately after Ipswich was promoted to PL. And I "get" it. It's just frustrating.

For those who haven't had the pleasure of living there as I did, Ipswich is BASICALLY (to use a baseball comparison), the Chicago Cubs of British soccer. Most everyone really does love them, they're a blue collar squad in a blue collar town (or at least it WAS), and they're one of those that can - with the right coach - stay within shouting distance of the best teams when the stars align.

And then you have the long drought years.........

Yes, Ed was raised in Framlingham, a place I spent many a weekend as a child touring the castle. It’s maybe 15 miles from downtown Ipswich. He’s a team owner like one or 2% or a really tiny amount. The team used to be owned by the Cobbold family who got their wealth getting other people drunk, heh heh.
