In this morning’s Birmingham News, Joseph Goodman had an interesting idea I hadn’t seen put forward (and no, I can’t believe I just typed that).

DeMeco Ryans as DC and HC in Waiting.

I’m not sure I like that, but only because the Head Coach In Waiting thing seems like a good idea in theory, but hasn’t worked well in practice. In fact, off the top of my head, I can’t think of a single time that it’s worked at all.

If he gets an NFL HC job and succeeds in it, I could, however, see DeMeco as Saban’s successor.
Ryans is just about a lock for a HC job in the NFL. Very little chance of him taking the DC job at Bama, right now. Interesting thought, though.

I believe this is the second time CNS is making a run at Lebby. The first time was at Ole Miss two years ago when we hired BOB IIRC. Think this will be a tough pull, but it could be Lebby feels he has “hitched his horse to the wrong wagon” with Venables? I think some of it may depend on how much leeway Lebby feels CNS will give him in running “his offense”.
I never thought Venables was good head coach material. The guy got dealt a crappy hand when all those players left OU last season when he was hired, so I guess some form of a pass is merited. But, I think for Lebby's personal career, it would be in his best interest to get a few years under Saban to be able to put on his resume, even if he had to bend a bit on how he wanted to do things offensively.

Lebby is definitely a proven offensive mind, but I’m concerned about his involvement in the Baylor scandal. He was implicated as someone who knew and kept quiet, and Art Briles is his father-in-law. Doesn’t impact the coaching aspect, but seem to be some serious character concerns there…..
Well, I'd imagine Saban knows all that and will be extremely proactive about monitoring things

I get less of that from Cubelic, and actually enjoy his insights.

Agree on McElroy. He’s a an arrogant *&^&(&*^ who really enjoys the sound of his own voice. As another poster pointed out, he has a lot in common with Brando.
Welp, it happens about once every 60 to 90 days....somebody tries a cute workaround for the ban on profanity, and is on a vacation.

The violation in question was an acronym containing a well-recognized vulgarity.

Just don't do it.

No profanity.
No cute symbols or transposition of syllables to get around the profanity filters.
No acronyms.
If you feel the need to try a workaround, maybe you shouldn't use the word / phrase / workaround at all.
If you wouldn't use the language when speaking to a Sunday School class of 10-year-olds, don't use it on TideFans.

How hard is this?

I don't like being the schoolmarm, and you would think reminders like this would be unnecessary. But they're apparently not.

If you can't post without violating TF rules, there are plenty of other boards out there that will welcome you.

Go.
I Just couldn't resist. ;) 😂

This is a hum dinger of an off season thread. Any chance Coach is eyeing an offensive coach no one is talking about?
Dunno about "eyeing" but maybe seancing with Clark Shaughnessy on modernizing what BOB left behind at 'Bama. And "hearing" Bama Hops [cq] on the defensive side of the humdinger.

Can't imagine Ryans leaving the NFL before he's taken his shot as a head coach. That said, if he excels the way we think he will, Mama should certainly have him at the top of the To Call list whenever Saban decides to hit the lake.

There's precedent for NFL HC's leaving for Bama - Perkins, Stallings, and the guy we have right now. Rare , to be sure, but not unprecedented.

They should stick to reporting on Global warming or stuff like that..............Zow isnt an OC, and Ryans isnt a head coach in waiting...........this is what happens when you cant discern what Saban is going to do

Sorry but this thread can never, and I mean never, surpass the pure unadulterated stimulation, engagement and excitement of the now legendary “Hat Thread”. This thread can only be a “close second”.

That probably came from GatorJan if she is still on the interwebs somewhere.

I thought Zow was on Karen’s staff at Clemson.
