Who starts as Bama's QB in 2023?

Then how did the person who said "I never felt comfortable with Coach Bear Bryant on the sidelines" come across to folks? Guess where he would have probably been escorted? Oh the irony here: he'd been escorted down to Bryce Hospital for the insane!

I think most people equate feeling comfortable with a person based on some kind of evidence of past behavior and in this case it would be BY's performance on the field (since I'm unaware of anything he ever did off the field to diminish anyone's view of him).

In BY's case, he literally performed as well as any QB we've ever, especially when you consider the circumstances of the injuries in his first year (on the cusp of a NC when two dynamic receivers get hurt) and the assistant coaching debacle in his second.

But his performances (the very ones that caused you to not feel comfortable with him) are the reason EVERYBODY disagrees with you on this. It's like you aren't considering the facts and you're stuck in your head about a feeling that doesn't compute with reality. It's why no one can agree with your position.

No, it's not. I'm not making a judgment on Young's understanding/intelligence/whatever, and not saying he didn't know how to do something. I'm stating how I felt with a person in a given situation.

Ok, let's try this.

Instead of expressing your feelings on Bryce as a QB, how about telling us your thoughts based upon quantifiable criteria.

I'll start with quantifiable criteria to support my opinion that what Bryce achieved was far beyond what "any good QB could do":

  • 1st in Alabama single-season passing touchdowns (47)
  • 1st in Alabama career five-touchdown games (5)
  • 2nd in Alabama career passing yards (8,356)
  • 2nd in Alabama career passing touchdowns (80)
  • Sugar Bowl MVP (2022)
  • Manning Award Finalist (2022)
  • 2nd Team All-American by PFF and USAT (2022)
  • 2nd Team All-SEC by AP (2022)
  • Heisman Trophy (2021)
  • Maxwell Award (2021)
  • Davey O'Brien Award (2021)
  • Manning Award (2021)
  • College Football Player of the Year by AP and SN (2021)
  • 1st Team All-American by AP, FWAA, PFF, USAT, ESPN, CBS Sports and TSN (2021)
  • 2nd Team All-American by AFCA and Walter Camp (2021)
  • SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2021)
  • 1st Team All-SEC (2021)
Now, can you provide any quantifiable criteria upon which to base your opinion that "any good QB could do what he did"? Or is your opinion really just feelings?

Thanks for putting some "facts" into the equation. Kinda the point of my last post, but thank you for doing the research!
 
I know most of you don't go back and watch losses, but I'm a little different and I'll watch a loss up until they start showing the other team go into celebration mode.

I've been watching the 2021 NC game against Georgia. For context, we'd already lost Metchie in the big win against Georgia in the SECCG. Then we lost JW in the first half of the NC game.

At the half, we were leading 9-6. BY had over 200 yards in the first half and had outplayed Bennett. We were clearly dominating Georgia in every way, except the scoreboard. In hindsight, if we could have just put one TD on the board in that half we probably win the game depleted as we were!

Point is, BY played an amazing game despite having to adjust to throwing to Slade Bolden instead of JW. I know we gave Texas a hard time about "if Colt hadn't got hurt" but there's no question the loss of both Metchie and Williams totally changed the outcome of that game. It eventually "caught up to us" in the second half of the NC game.

This also should have been the game that indicated to CNS that we needed to be able to run the ball better in games like this. We only finished the game with 30 yards rushing to Georgia's 140. We rush the ball in the first half just a little better and we at least put 1 of those drives in the endzone.

Keeping this on the current point of this year's QB, this might be why the QB with the most arm talent hasn't necessarily won the job and why TB is in the mix, due to his RPO skills.

Yes we did.

BamaMoon makes a great point about where we stood at the half. But I also go back to the fact we led going into the 4th quarter, and we had the ball in plus territory on the final drive down one score when that pick 6 occurred.

We were an utterly depleted team at that point. Georgia was barely good enough to overcome that.

I think Georgia was a lot better last year than in 2021... but we didn't have our act together to be able to challenge them again.

I'm fully confident we've got the team to get back there this year, provided the topic of this thread bears out. QB has to come through.

Yes, I agree about Georgia being better in 2022, but I think we were in '21. Not only did we shellack them in the SECCG, but we basically controlled the whole game until they went ahead at the end of the 3rd quarter and then as we retook the lead midway thru the fourth quarter.

And in retrospect, as was pointed out about our secondary, perhaps the crushing blow was the defensive back situation, which we did a great job to hide most of the game. But between the db deficiency, missing Metchie and Williamson and the inability to run the ball and get the ball into the endzone, it was just too much to overcome in the end.

You know, sometimes the best teams don't win. It might be an unpopular opinion, but when we beat Clemson for the 2015 title in the epic title game, they were probably the better team. We basically didn't have an answer to stop Watson. But between CNS amazing onside kick call and Drake's 95 yard return for a TD pushed us over the edge. Good thing because they scored another TD because we couldn't stop them.

We were probably better in '21, but sometimes things just don't line up and those injuries were just too big in the end.

And I will always feel we were clearly better than Clemson the next season, and were perhaps one of the best teams of all time, at least on defense.

I agree we were better in 2021. Those are just the breaks.

As much as I would like to see Simpson win the gig, do you really think a 30 second video shows us anything?

I've tried to extrapolate from similar videos, but I really think it's more about what happens when the lights come on with a real defense in their face.

It doesn't.

I hope we all support whoever wins the job. I remember some eye rolling comments from previous qb battles on other boards. (and a few on this one). Almost like certain fans were upset that "their" guy didn't win.

Is it possible that both ND transfers could have a bit of trouble becoming accustomed to the speed and and overall talent difference in the SEC.
 
Jalen was 1st team in A day game and i don't see any reason to think that's changed yet. Especially if no one is seperating themselves.
What's coach getting at "take the bull by the horns"?
What's exactly lacking from the 3 potential starters? Leadership? Skill? Field awareness? Effort?

I watched the same clip. Simpson was sharp and passes were right there. Milroe was all over (high, low, and behind). Buckner was ok, but not as sharp as simpson
