Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. UTw...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

This loss just feels different than any other in the Saban era, as far as regular season losses go. We are a bad football team, top to bottom. And I mean from the VERY top down. Saban had no business keeping Milroe in the game. It is obvious he has not improved at all. Our OL did him no favors, but he bailed several times last night with a clean pocket. He threw 2 horrible INTs right to the other team.

Our defense looks exactly like when Golding was here, which can only mean it is by design with Saban’s approval. We will not win the West this year.
I was not sold on Steele coming back as DC, but I realized I can't hold him completely at fault for it. And I am not one to give Saban the business for what's happening, but even he has to see that Milroe just isn't getting it done. I get not destroying his confidence..............but Hurt's confidence was not destroyed in 2017 when the change was made. The guy came back stronger and look at him today. Maybe we are all spoiled.............I know 6 NCs are more than most college fan bases could dream of. I've enjoyed the heck out of it.

I've heard Saban is stubborn to change more than once.............maybe so, but it's time for him to change once more, and maybe that's what will happen.............I wont give up on the team, but I certainly dont want to see a team with so much talent founder and fail

One more thing, our crowd was absolutely pathetic and had no impact on the game at all.

Well three things being there in person

1) I’ve been to more games than most since 2012. Aside from 2013 LSU or 2014 Auburn this may have been the loudest I have heard BDS

2) in general BDS is a quiet stadium when compared to the SEC. We have far more older people who want to sit down than stand up and yell. And far more younger fans who hate the rules that said people try to impose on them. You go to Auburn, LSU, Florida, and aTm and you see are far and away more raucous crowd year in and year out.

3) I don’t know if it was heard on tv but after Milroe threw his 2nd pick there was a large portion of the crowd that booed.

My point is that ESPN generally mixes the crowd noise

Again this is the NIL era, the kids show no loyalty anymore. Now that may go against the grain of your philosophy of coaching or why do what you do, but this is the way it is.

With that you have to make quick decisive decisions, you can't let things play out on the field. Doing that now, you will walk into an empty locker room. Critical decisions need to be made now. If you have to reinsert yourself into gameplans/technique then do it.

I don't care how many teammates like Milroe none of his teammates signed up to be a part of what we saw last night. I'm not piling on Milroe here. He is a symptom of a larger issue.

Coach is himhawing when he should be doubling down on expectations. If he let's this carry on, then staff and players will make his decision for him...

We were gashing them up the middle with the run early on, and we abandoned it because Rees-ons?

This OL can’t pass block. Milroe can’t pass. WRs can’t get separation. So why in the world are we even trying to pass? We still had plenty of time to continue the body shots with Jase, but no, we stared running to the outside and got tackled at the LOS every time. Also I can’t be the only one that sighs when Roydell is in the game.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but this team basically just needs to do the 2013 Auburn playbook. IMO the blame is solely on the coaching staff for trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. They should have recognized the weaknesses with this team and course corrected in the spring.

We were able to run the ball only until Texas stopped worrying about the pass and started jamming the lines. Our effectiveness was very short-lived.

Bunch of chicken littles. Suck it up, buttercups!

This was a close game that was littered with mistakes by true freshman and an inexperienced quarterback flustered by his swinging gate of an O-Line in the game.

This will be a different team by season's end...

I must preface this by saying I prefer old school football. This is just one observatation and I dont care what other players on other teams or coaches do. Why is it that the players celebrate every long run or catch or big tackle? I would think the coaching staff does not allow it in practice. The teams 2 main focues are to score when we have the ball and stop the other team on defense. It really makes me sick to see the kids celebrating after a 15 yard pass or a tackle for a loss. So I know CNS teaches discipline but we sure as heck dont practice it in the games we play. Go back and look at some of Coach Stallings games. Once we scored they celebrated. I would think the NIL has a lot to do with this and I truly hate the way the game has changed over the past couple of years. This is just one of the fans that has lived thru all the good and bad since the 1960's. Maybe I just need to listen to the games from now on. LOL RTR

As to the defense last- I thought the secondary, as far as positioning and being “in phase” with the receivers (at least early) was better than we have seen the past two years. Yeah there was the bust by Adams and Sark taking advantage of the true freshman Downs.

And they also took advantage of the LB matchup with their TE.

The big issue was literally no pressure on Ewers. The guy had time to read “War and Peace”, make and consume a sammich, and take a nap before each throw.

Speaking of TE’s where the heck was Dupree last night?

And no screen plays.
Reports of our resurrection have been greatly exaggerated. Rees has no idea what he’s doing. Steele doesn’t have a DL to create pressure. Cubelic and Pate talked up our offensive line by saying “We will witness something we’ve never seen before”. This was a reference to having 3 guys over 350 lbs. Well, none of that means jack if you can’t pass block and have a QB that can’t throw. This is 2023 for crying out loud. What a disaster.

Yeah but what kinda of different team… a team that quits after their second loss and we roll to a 7-5 or 8-4 season or one that finds something it desperately was missing in fall camp and rallies a run and makes some noise. Like I’ve said I seen my share of losses in person and have mostly come away with some sorta positive outlook on what’s to come, but this one has exposed some hard truths and created far more questions than what we even could have expected in a loss.

Their WRs were wide open all night…

Brady throughout his career had some very mediocre offensive lines compared to many of his peers because Belichick prioritized on defense. But absolutely no one consistently tried to play him up on the line like teams do Lamar Jackson… you want to know why? Because Brady would hit you with a quick slant or out, and would 10-14 play you down the field if you did. Reading a defense and going through progressions are probably far more important than arm talent.

Yes the Oline is a problem but when there is zero respect for the quarterback’s ability to throw it’s more of an add on than a core issue. If we want to see this Olines potential then people need to respect our passing game.

I read that Milroe and several of our receivers worked out together this Summer. Is this the support our team relies on to name a #1?
I much prefer the head Coach name the #1, rather than winning the locker room. Popularity isn't all it's cracked up to be.
My question to the players is:
' Do you want to be friends, or win Football Games?'
Agree 100%. I get sick of hearing about a QB "winning the team". If "the team" doesn't want to get behind the guy that is chosen, show them the door.

This won't be our only home loss. We'll lose at least one more - Ole Miss, Tenn, LSU all are potential losses. We won't lose all three, but we'll lose at least one of them.

And bank it right now - we lose to the Barn this year.
