He lacks the basic fundamental throwing motion to get the ball out and make short accurate catchable throws. Round peg in a square hole.
And yet there ARE things Milroe can do to have a greater opportunity for success. I believe it has been beaten into his brain to “stay in the pocket and extend the play” to the point he now has lost his ability to make the plays his athleticism would normally allow him to make.
There were multiple times the past couple of weeks where the play was to be made with his feet and not his arm. And he hesitated ….and the opportunity was lost.
It appears that UT is in a similar situation with Milton. He struggles with trying to balance “patience in pocket” versus taking the easy yardage by running. He is still more advanced though in my opinion in the short to intermediate passing game.
I will agree with what Danielson said yesterday concerning Milton when they went to a few read options for him saying “that was something Tennessee needed to do more with him”. And I think that holds true for Milroe with us.
Now I know I’ll have folks say “well that’s not Rees/CNS/Alabama’s offense”. Well it is obvious that “whomever’s offense” it is, it is having difficulty with consistency and sustaining drives. Well if “necessity is the mother of invention, then at some point desperation becomes the father”. If we are going to have any shot at making it to Atlanta, something has to change.
