Since we are doing an Auburn review of past teams can we also just get it out there that their 2010 NC team was nothing more than a crazed but uber talented QB they outbid MSU for and one unblockable DL. And remember they needed a last second FG to beat a PAC 12 team.

Poor Gene, he won and probably didn't understand why and he lost and didn't understand why.

FTR, however, I really like CGC as a person and TV guy. He's back to doing what he probably never should have left doing: being a DC.
They won FIVE games by 3 points or less that year and those two players plus a crazy amount of lucky breaks and bounces were the difference in them escaping every one of them.

You would think that amount of fortune would run out.

But then things in 2013 and 2017 and 2019 happen that we won’t talk about.

Alabama should have won all 3 of those games.

Their team Voodoo is real and especially in JH vs Bama.

I believe many of those close games came early. They didn't know how to use sCam but finally figured it out. Rest is history.

Questionable officiating in the LSU game on an onsides kick at the end of that game. The au kicker clearly touched the ball 9-1/2 yards down field. Thought the review would right the wrong...😖

Right on cue, they finally beat an SEC opponent by double digits since 2020. Mind you, Mississippi st was without their starting QB and running back and is playing at auburn, but they will take any victory they can after four straight lisses. They're back on track and should win the next 4 games according to the cult!
They're so predictable.

Auburn fans are a fanbase where other “cults” say “Man, those people are WEIRD!!!!”

Except they also had perhaps the worst defense to win a MNC in college football history and somehow managed to hold a team that averaged 49.3 ppg (corrected avg: 45.1)......to 19 points. Auburn's defense gave up 24.5 ppg and held that high-powered attack to 19.

Btw - this is one of those things that really grates on me. We have folks here who want to say "UGA wasn't any good last year, they BARELY beat Missouri."

But the fact is that almost every national champion not named 1991 Washington or 1995 Nebraska has those close calls. Miami only led BC by 5 points with a minute left to play before a Pick Six. Yes, BC was better than Mizzou (well, maybe), but these data points affect nearly every national champion.

Remember Rocky Block? It's not like the Vols were a top five team.

Of course, I'll grant the immediate difference with Auburn: they were 7 plays from being 7-7 instead of 14-0. That's true. They did catch lightning in a bottle.

Oh, he knew why.
He just had to pretend.

yeah, he's really good at that.

I’m not sure he’s still quite the offensive mind he thinks he is. He likes to say he brought the RPO to the SEC, which he did, but that was over a decade ago. I think defensive coordinators have caught up to him. Liberty is undefeated and averaging 10 more points a game this year vs last. I understand he doesn’t have the most talented roster but when I watch them it seems like there’s more to the problem that just talent. They seem confused and disorganized, that’s a coaching issue in my book.
As noted in the movie “Jerry McGuire”, “Finally someone said it.” Freeze had a couple of good years at Ole Miss. However, last time I checked, they’ve never been to Atlanta. He went 7-5 in Little League last year at Liberty as well. Just like with Gus, the rule changes did major damage to these high school guru offenses. At the end of the day, he’s a Junior College baseball playing, girls basketball coach, that so happened to have a First Round NFL offensive tackle playing on his high school team. He will flame out and leave the plains with a pocket full of cash just like the last “Next great Coaches” have done since 2008 down there.

They've got Arkansas, Vandy, and New Mexico State left to play besides Bama. They could actually end up with 7 wins.
Barn goes to arky and vandy b2b road games. They will lose at arky. Arky put a whipping on them last year at JHS. toss up game at vandy. If they lose both, Freeze will be questioned again lol!!

I think Arky is a toss up to be honest.
I think it depends if the hogs are mailing it in for the season. But after 5 straight heartbreaking losses, I believe they will get up for a home game, especially with an opportunity to beat an SEC West team. Auburn lost 4 straight and was energized to play another SEC West team at home. I see the same thing happening for Arky. Furthermore, they're coming off a bye week.

They will be sky high for us. They have one game circled on that calendar every year. Their fans, their players, many not even from the state of Alabama. The iron Bowl, at Jordan Hare, sees a different team play and compete than the one that has to occassionally play a road game.

Arky's a tough team. no talent, but tough. Auburns' smoke and mirror offense might work like a charm or those Arky boys might knock their QB into the last century.
they have Jefferson who is always a problem. Rocket Sanders is one of the best backs in the SEC. their freshman TE is going to be star. Their defense like you said is tough and physical.
