Bama getting no respect

Because they don't watch the games THAT closely.

They look and see, "Hey, team is undefeated and won."
They look and see, "Damn, Alabama only beat USF by 14 points."

And even if Texas should have lost to KSU (which I didn't know but whatever), the Wildcats are a ranked team (#21) and USF is 5-5, with one win over an FCS school. The losses simply aren't comparable.

But again, it's more complicated than that simply because I honestly think we are competing against our reputation of past years, which is also unfair but the burden of success.

I mean if you want to be pedantic about it, sure, no team has ever won a game that they should have lost, because they didn’t lose. My point was that Texas eked out that win with a KSU missed chip shot FG in the 4th followed by a decision from the KSU coach to just say screw it, and gamble on a very low probability OT 4th down TD attempt when he could have just taken the game to a second overtime with a very high probability FG. And they have been struggling to put inferior teams away ever since they got beat by OU.

You want to point out KSU is #21 and USF is 5-5, but I was not directly comparing KSU to USF, just pointed it out as one game where they struggled. They have also struggled to beat 4-6 Houston and 4-6 TCU, beating both by 7 or less points.

The point is not that they won the game, but that they are struggling with lesser teams worse than Alabama did with USF but aren’t being held back because of it. And as you pointed out, they aren’t paying that much attention to individual games. They clearly don’t care about struggle wins for teams like Texas or Washington or FSU. Therefore I don’t think that particular USF game is the giant albatross around Alabama’s neck that Bama fans are claiming it is. Maybe like you say they are holding us to a different standard because of past performance. Idk. It’s all just guesswork on all of our parts because this committee has no consistency week to week or even between teams.

It of course all comes down to the final poll, but people expecting a sudden automatic 4-6 spot jump for us in the final poll just because are I think being a bit too flippant towards what this committee is signaling.

Btw - and I hope this lightens the mood a bit, I'm not intending this as a criticism of anyone at all.

A lot of the spleen venting all of us are doing are basically what I would call the car warranty argument: we all want ASSURANCE NOW that if we just do everything right, it will all be okay. I'm reminded of the scene in "Tommy Boy" where the parts salesman is telling Chris Farley the guarantee has to be "on the box" and saying, "I'm not gonna break, but if I do, this little note will make it all better!"

If you remember Farley's response - an offer to leave his intestinal contents in a box and write "guarantee" on the side of it - well, that's where we are now.

All we can do is take care of what we can take care of.
OK, I'll buy from you.

I miss that guy.
He had a great sense of humor about his own team, which kept it light.
I think you're conflating him with someone else - we almost banned that clown on several occasions.

ETA: there may have been more than one, but the one I recall was essentially invited to pipe down or leave. Upon reflection, I'm not pitting my memory against yours, hahaha

I should hasten to add I don't NECESSARILY remember poster names with whom I barely interact. There's been a few names that are so close to other names that unless I wind up in a long discussion/debate/bar brawl with them, it hits me later ("wait, that was a different person!").

True story, not making this up.

For the last couple of years I've been seeing a doctor to make sure my eye tumor (apparently misdiagnosed thank God) and glaucoma (also misdiagnosed) don't become an issue. They've also proposed me having eye surgery to correct my strabismus.

The name of the glaucoma doctor is Lauren Dhar.
The name of the strabismus doctor - whom I've never met - is Lori Dao.

Both were also pregnant at the exact same time, so when I heard "yeah, she had a baby," it reinforced wrong information in my brain.

I only discovered last month I've been giving the wrong name every time.

So he IS human! :ROFLMAO:

He must have ducked out....

Oh this settles it. It's going to happen. And people are going to finally get that Alabama vs. Oregon match up they've wanted for so long.

Where is our resident Duck poster? Is he still around?
Are you calling for @oregonblitzkrieg? He must not be on here anymore since his name didn’t pop up. He was something else.

I'm still waiting for the Bison Ref dude to come back and explain how Officiating is hardly ever wrong.

His defense of what happened in Knoxville last year would be something else.

But yeah we haven't seen oregonblitzkrieg in a while.

Tbf though they haven't been in the CFBP discussion since 2014.

Yeah I think IndyBison, after the numbers showing the very large statistical discrepancy in holding calls for/against Bama for the past many years made him decide “maybe I should post there any more”.

IndyBison, who hasn't posted here since February 2022. Presumably, he's still solving how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.

Look, I WILL defend the officials on one thing that I've mentioned: part of what makes modern officiating look more incompetent than 40 years ago is the ubiquitous camera and insane angles that can be viewed with modern technology. In all honesty, officiating is probably BETTER (like most everything else) than it was in 1980 - because there weren't cameras you could turn at angles that would allow you to see something an official could not possibly see in his one look at full speed.

Also, I fail to see how one team is called for three times the holding penalties as another how that proves anything at all about officiating. If one team holds three times as often, they should get called three times as often. My only beef with holding is the selectivity of it (My issue in that Vols game was the head shots Bryce took that somehow weren't penalties).

And DPI is such nonsense, too, in college. We need to start pulling the Auburn trick of mugging the guy on the first two passes and getting it called, knowing we'll get away with all but the most flagrant DPI later on because the officials aren't going to throw 75 flags and hold the game up that much.

Bama will gain everyone's respect if they run the table and beat Georgia in the SEC title game - simple as that. You don't abandon a 12-1 Bama team that wins the SEC title and is the first team to beat Georgia in two years and has the #1 SOS in the country as well. Plus, if the CFP is so concerned about tv ratings, who brings more people to the big screen than any other team? Alabama - enough said.

In the scenario of Bama beating UGAly in the SECCG, it helps Bama get some recognition, but does it knock UGAly out? Even by beating them we might can get the 4 seed. But you have multiple other teams playing really good ball right now.
