The “chatter” among many of Saban’s former players is that Lanning is the next coach. The only one I’m placing a lot of stock in is Barrett Jones, primarily based on some of his connections.

Imagine following in the footsteps of a historic figure like Saban and then facing probably the most difficult season in modern football history.
As soon as the next coach drops a game he's not supposed to, there will be a faction of the fan base that will say it was a bad hire, we hired an outsider, etc
The risks are high, but so are the rewards
Also Chris Lowe is reporting top candidate is Lanning, Coach Saban and Low have a good relationship so I now think it's Lanning

Saban already has a replacement apparently. Many former players are indicating as much. Apparently Dan Lanning seems to be the name that leaked out.
He wouldn't qualify in any industry. And Greg Byrne had to handle a lot of the fallout ...

They better name him soon or Bama will lose a ton of players. If the fact someone is already selected is just rumor, a floundering coaching search will set Bama back years.

If Lanning had sustained success for 2 more years, I would say he was a no brainer, but Alabama isn’t the place to learn on the job. Lane is a no for me, love the guy…at Ole Miss but not Bama. His quirky style, so so HS recruiting and Twitter stuff tells me no.
Sark may be a good candidate. And before Anyone says he wouldn't leave Austin , it’s on the interwebs that Quinn Ewers will not be the Texas starter if he comes back. Big money paid Arch millions to be the man, and Sark wanted him, so… If shorthorn boosters are interfering already in coaching decisions like they did with Mack Brown, Steve may be looking for the exit.

Does anyone besides me think it's weird that the university hasn't made an announcement and CNS hasn't made a statement? He's already met with the team. The story has broken. Why the delay in announcing? Are they waiting for white smoke from the Vatican?
