Let’s go down the list -
Dabo was the bag man for his staff at Alabama
Dabo’s only success at Clemson was bc veneables (sp?) and sign stealing and I’m assuming buying recruits
Dabo wont use the portal
Dabo is backsliding badly in plain view and his retort to anyone questioning his poor decisions is that he wants less fans?
you can hate kiffin for any of the enumerable reasons that exist and are obvious to us all but what he’s currently doing at ole miss is VERY impressive all things considered.
do I want him? No not even a little bit but he is currently doing his job vastly better than dabo is.
I'm not saying Alabama should get either mind you but...
Lane Kiffin just had his best season ever as a head coach. He was 11-2
Dabo has won that many games 8 times, and the terrible season he just had (it was, he probably does need a fresh start) was still 9 wins.
I'm not saying it has to be Dabo, not at all. He's not #1 on my wishlist that's for sure (honestly Smart would be but that's darn near impossible).
But...
Dabo is 103-23
Kiffin is 95-49
I'm not even getting into the character issues, because character issues abound with Kiffin. I get some of the appeal of Kiffin, I do. When Smart phoned it in for the championship game and the defense didn't show up Kiffin is the one whose brilliant gameplan saved the day.
That's good Kiffin. But, there's also bad Kiffin. We've seen bad Kiffin blow games and specifically sabotage Alabama's shot at a championship. Bad Kiffin is more dangerous and worse than anything Dabo has done.
I was big on Spurrier when Alabama ended up hiring Saban. Dabo is basically Spurrier in this equation, you know what you'll get. Kiffin is the Bobby Petrino of this scenario. Great offensive mind, might get on a motorcycle wreck and ruin everything (almost identical record to Kiffin in his four years in the SEC).
I'm not sure why anyone wants the next Bobby Petrino coaching Alabama. Of course the real goal here is to find the next Saban, or the next Kirby Smart. That's the home run hire.
