There is no way these former players are in the know IMHO. If so, it would have been leaked already. They have become fans just like us and like to speculate just like us. I really thought Lanning...but now idk. Norvell is the new fav at the betting site I follow. Lanning is now second. He was the huge favorite this AM.
Interesting that Lanning only fell to 2nd after his statement.

Lane train too much baggage.
Sark Doubt he leaves Texas with ability to recruit in that state.
Smart Not leaving
Debeor not a southeast guy
Dabo he is quirky and some don’t like him along with Clemson recent struggles

I think you have to start looking more outside the box.
Mike Norvell seems to be good coach decent recruiter.
Mike Locksley. Alabama guy was pretty good recruiter but Maryland been just meh but that not place that really backs football.
Eli Drinkwitz. Probably bit early for him but he is up and coming coach imo.
Billy Napier Alabama ties did great at lower levels not much at Florida but they had no talent in cupboard when he took over.
Demarco Ryan. No real college experience but great coach and motivator.
Luke Fickle.
Add to your list; Superdad. I'll do the job cheap!

I still don't think you can totally rule out Kirby Smart. No sources or credible info whatsoever - but I'll say what I said before: most coaches that reach this level of football have massive egos and I suspect Kirby is no different. A personal appeal from the GOAT, a blank check and the opportunity to prove that he's as good as his mentor would be on the table. Who knows.

I don't understand the appeal of DeMeco. Yes, he's a Bama guy, and he was great for us when he played here, but do we really wanna replace the goat with a guy who only has one year of coaching experience z and it's not even in college? Do we even know if he's a good coach yet? There are plenty of NFL coaches who had success in year one, then fizzled out. Not saying he isn't a good coach, but do we really know yet?

It was a “zipper” problem. I personally know “of” at least one of the other parties in question. Whether there were others or who they were I do not know - but this one was no coed.
My understanding with Kiffin is two things were going on at once.

A: Kiffin had already worn out his welcome at Alabama, he was gone after the season no matter what, whether or not he had a head coaching job. I can't verify this, but with all the Joey Freshwater stuff going around it's plausible.

B: Kiffin showed up unprepared and presumably hungover for the Washington game. He actually called plays the team had no practiced, which was one reason the offense was such a mess that game. This lead to his immediate removal instead of coaching the championship game.

This is all based on second hand information, but generally reliable. Kiffin just doesn't seem to do as well in the spotlight, Mississippi seems like a good place for him honestly, but don't get me wrong, I have him on my list just not at the top.

If my last post was accurate (and there was a name), if he did come to Ttown, why? Not for an interview- this was supposedly a done deal.
If it’s a lie that news anchor just pooped in his bday suit.
If true, then nobody was “locked up” and “72 hours” was either also untrue or GB did it in his drawers too.
Oh well, I was hoping for Lanning. Maybe it’ll be someone whose name hasn’t been mentioned.
I got no problem with LK - if he gets shot by a jealous hubby/boyfriend, that’s on him. I think he could do the “job”.

I heard on the radio (3 man front, I think) that Lanning was not in Tuscaloosa yesterday. He did not interview. He has not been offered the job. In fact, he's not even on "the list."

Take it all for what it's worth. Nothing but rumors and speculation at this point.

So you don't believe Kiffin could change? Sark Did.
Dan, we have first-hand information:

One man changed. The other engaged in reckless, inappropriate conduct on multiple fronts, literally forcing Saban to fire him even if it undermined the season. Think how bad it must have been for Coach to act mere days before the championship game.

It's been seven years ago now, not enough time -- I believe -- for the powers that be to take the risk just because Kiffin might win a lot of games. At least I hope that's true.

I agree with this. He's probably the highest risk on the board... But with high risk comes potential high reward.

A shock the world in a good way would have to be Kirby, but is a UGA alum already settled in at his probable dream job winning two titles already going to leave and come back to Bama...I just don't see it. I think Demeco will be successful, but the growing pains would likely be there with the recruiting aspect and he is already making a name for himself in the NFL. I don't have anyone else that even fits in the shocked category that would be realistic...Kiffin, Dabo, or Sark all make sense in some ways and don't in others, but they certainly woudn't be shocking.

with the way things are now, you cannot drag your feet on this.
I agree, but the fact is that we don't know that they're doing any such thing. I could be wrong, but Nick Saban doesn't seem like a guy whose plans include much in the way of "maybe." I doubt he started the Lanning rumors, but I also doubt that he made a plan with Lanning, only to have Lanning ditch. No, I think a plan has been in place for a while. Not saying that they trolled us with the Lanning thing, but I just think it turned out to be a false alarm.

I still think there's a plan, and it hasn't been revealed to us yet. And I don't think it involves any panic.

I think DeMeco has risen to every challenge he's ever had. Give him enough time to learn the college game and he'd rise to the challenge. But we can't give this job to someone with zero college experience. Not a knock on Ryans at all, he's great.

I can verify - big boosters and even a former BOT member were lined up against him.
It was likely a combination of things - if his hungover coaching episode was a one-off, he and CNS could have had a “C-T-J” meeting about it, but that combined with sleeping with someone else’s wife (who happens to carry some weight) could likely be the reasons.
He’s getting older - I didn’t stop my partying until I was in my late 40s. Bama can win with him, no question: but can he keep the job “if offered”?
