JessN: Assistant coach hiring tracker...

The new DC was not on that national title team. For many fans, he seems an odd and unproven choice. His South Alabama team looked good defensively, but still seems uncertain. I'm gonna trust in CKD's choice here. He knows Wommack, I don't.
But the complaint I was responding to was precisely that CKD was bringing his UDub people with him. The ones he brought were his recruiting guru and his key offensive staff. I have no strong opinion on Wommack but, as you say, we'll have to trust CKD's judgment as a head coach on that one.

Because it's panic time!

Guess I'm different from some. The older I get the more I develop the "ducks back" syndrome. Even in the moment I heard CNS was retiring I was calm and immediately reserved to Bama will struggle, relatively speaking, for 2-3-5 years because of coaching and CFB landscape change. I certainly hope I'm wrong and CKD can maintain his winning percentage but this is the SEC and as much as recruiting used CNS age against us they'll use CKD inexperience in the conference as well. I've temporarily lowered my expectations accordingly but I do hope to be pleasantly surprised sooner than later.
ROLL TIDE!!!

I think his two best hires are Grubb and the recruiting guru............and I think the DC might also shock some people in the long run. He's pretty well regarded and comes from the hotbed of Mobile

Well, had Bama hired Mike Price I'd be unhappy, but I think we need to support the guy and take a wait and see approach..............I think there will be a slight dip, but winning cures alot of ailments and I think we will see some winning sooner than later

If Saban had hired this projected staff, people would be excited.

I'm gonna got way out on a limb here and say outside of the HC, we probably are gonna have a better coaching staff year one under CKD.

And considering CNS will be advising CKD, it's very possible things are going to be improved all around!

If this works out in the long run, this will become the model for how legendary coaches should bow out!

CKD said in his introductory press conference that he builds his team's around strong coordinators. Which, if anyone doesnt think they matter just look at the Philadelphia Eagles 2022 and in 2023 after losing both their OC and DC. They matter.

I tend to agree. I had thought that the caliber and quality of our assistants had fallen off somewhat in the last few years. The only thing that kept the ship afloat was CNS. He had to do more coaching in addition to recruiting and managing

That's a tall order but I do think we've upgraded on the offensive side of the ball. DeBoer is widely considered a great offensive coach and Grubbs, the new OC, is the guy Saban wanted before having to settle for Rees.

I'd have preferred to have a guy in place, to ensure a smoother transition. This was reportedly Saban's hope with regard to Sark but there was no way he could turn down the Texas job.

Under the current transfer rules, though, I don't know how it could have gone better in the absence of a Coach In Waiting. DeBoer looks to be a home run hire and he's assembling what looks to be a top-notch staff. I might have preferred a Jim Leonhart or other more-experienced DC but this guy has done it at Indiana and been a head coach, so he looks promising.

Well, the "man" himself said it. He said it had gotten harder to hire assistants and there's no doubt it seemed we were falling behind in most phases except having the GOAT. Kinda ironic, isn't it?

We did have good coaches on this last Saban staff. Roach and Gillespie were both retained and T-Rob and Wiggins got promotions at other schools. That is only 4 out of 10 on-field positions but almost all schools would take these four.
