Looking at Mack now, he has the leg up in spring. He's been in DeBoers system for a year. He knows the calls and how they want things done.

If the report about Sayin favoring Rees is true this is just confirmation that "relationships" in recruiting have a lot to do with this attrition and of course that starts with CNS.
Again, I still wouldn't believe CKD indicated JS was not wanted in the program even if my mom called me and told me her preacher said it was true.
It's likely JS was thinking about the portal as soon as CNS said he's retiring. He probably waited to see about who the new staff would be and whether Rees might be retained OR to see where he might go.
Furthermore, I seriously doubt it had any connection with the Mack transfer unless JS had already indicated to CKD he was planning on leaving and that could have triggered the offer to Mack.

Not trying to monopolize this, but I missed editing that post. Someone showed a Twitter post indicated he did have a Washington offer, while the 247 page or whatever I viewed didn't show one. So seems that was inaccurate. I found the post and edited, don't want to promote inaccuracies.
Of course we've come full circle to the point that now there's debate at how the staff felt about Sayin and that much is still very much in the air.

Playing along with the line of your comments, they could turn out to just be really confident in their path forward with Mack. If that was the true play, it's just incredibly bold. The boosters that sent NIL money to Sayin wouldn't be happy, the people that really bought into the idea he was the future wouldn't be happy, and of course that puts all the pressure on Mack and DeBoer to come through or else there will be some backlash.
I honestly hope it isn't true that the staff preferred Mack, I prefer the idea he just walked for money because this takes pressure off of DeBoer. It can add to the narrative of oh well, lost some key guys, had to rebuild. If he did make this move on purpose though, man that's a win now, go big, all the chips on the table type of move.
I hope it didn't go down like that, but that's the stuff of legends if you make that move and it pays off. Heck, he'd be like the first person ever to actually get me to shut up.
The QB competition should be really good this time around..............I think TS and Lonergan will do well too.

Man, we still have 2 1/2 weeks of this crap. These transfer rules are garbage. We might as well be on probation, with all the punches we are being forced to take. If the NCAA really wanted to punish a team for cheating, they would just treat them like a team where the head coach leaves.

I'm really shocked Sayin is bailing. Getting Grub as OC should have been music to his ears.
In 2018, we had the most “me†position coaches and coordinators in any year during Saban ‘s tenure. That was a disaster waiting to happen, IMO.Could not agree more. The loss to Clemson was shocking, not as much the final score but the fact that prior to halftime he looked like he had already given up, though the game was in reach. I had never seen that before. That game did not change him but he had already begun to change. Don't know what it was or precisely when but it had already begun and would continue to manifest itself in many ways. If I were forced to guess, the incredible turnover on his staff was the primary precipitator. It just wore him out and he began to settle and just stumbled into Sarkisian, Flood and a few others.
With that in mind, this new staff looks far far better. If there is anyone left to play next year, they will be far better coached than the last 6 years.

Again, you are assuming JS is reacting to Mack and not the other way around, but even if you are correct you don't turn down the caliber of QB Austin Mack seems to be. And remember Eli Holstein had already hit the portal and if JM or TS don't win the job in the fall I could see either OR even both hitting the portal in the fall window.
I didn't call him a brat (don't think you are saying I did) but I agree it's unwarranted. We (don't know your age but a bunch of us are 50+ in age) love to imagine we would act a lot different from the kids and the big NIL opportunities if this were us but when I was JS's age I had a job bagging groceries making minimum wage when it was still $3.50 an hour. And I was willing to play college basketball for free as a walk-on. I can't imagine what I'd do if someone told me I could've played basketball for a full ride much less some cash to go with it!!!

And go watch the video of his HS coach breaking down the plays than ran, what the QB was watching for and the progressions he should go thru and it's very likely he's more advanced than last year's starter in not just the CKD/Grubb scheme but reading defenses in general.
Based on today's events and his time in the system already it wouldn't shock me if he's not challenging for the #1 to #2 spot in the spring and fall.
