Let me ask this for a second. You are an A.D. looking to replace a coach and the one you settle on has a record of 6–5–1, 6–6, 7–5, 6–6, 9–2 over the last five years. Do you take him or no? I'm gonna guess for a second and believe you would say no. not only no but H-E- double hockey sticks NO. In hind sight I would tell you as the LSU AD in 1999 you should be fired for not hiring Coach Nick Saban. Yes Coach Nick Saban before he came to LSU had a very below average coaching record. So maybe, just maybe lay off of DeBoer until he either proves he was the man for the job of proves you right by NOT being the man for the job.I'm not trying to do that, but my childhood was legitimately traumatized by some of those guys, heh.
I think DeBoer seems like a very good coach. May be the best Xs and Os guy on the "list" and I think I said that prior to his hiring.
I've seen a few posts lately indicating how much it sucked for Alabama to have top talent but mediocre coaching. My concern lies only in the idea that Alabama might have top coaching but mediocre talent, and if that's actually going to be better or worse.
Selfishly, it felt pretty darn good every year coming in knowing Alabama had what it took to win a championship, and I don't want to lose that feeling. Then again, you don't have to be DuBose or Shula to fall short of those unrealistic heights.
stuart duncan is an awesome musicianOne of the orchestras I play in in Santa Fe played with him and his smaller band back in September. Incredibly nice guys and legendary musicians - Lee Sklar, Russ Kunkel, Stuart Duncan.
Given the apocalyptic vibe Bamaland just now, I think this temporary NS diversion is wholly appropriate for this thread.
We now return you to your previously scheduled hand-wringing.
I would really hate that!Seriously now that the Downs and Saying downfall has occurred, the only player on the team that could come close to equaling these is some bad Justice or Jam news.
True to an extent. But the OL has now lost 3 of 5 starters, hard to lose much else. Seth and Proctor have transferred, Latham decided to go pro. That leaves us with Booker and Roberts, who seem bought in.One encouraging thing so far is the amount of linemen on both sides of the ball staying put. Adding the lb core to that also. That’s where games are won, we can always out-scheme teams as long as our lines are strong.
That my friend is an awesome point. One encouraging thing so far is the amount of linemen on both sides of the ball staying put. Adding the lb core to that also. That’s where games are won, we can always out-scheme teams as long as our lines are strong.
Yea, but the core of folks, especially on the D Line, are still there. Looks like we have a center coming and seems we have a pretty good O Line coach coming in with a fresh take. I think the trenches look pretty darn good right now.True to an extent. But the OL has now lost 3 of 5 starters, hard to lose much else. Seth and Proctor have transferred, Latham decided to go pro. Great point, Skull! One encouraging thing so far is the amount of linemen on both sides of the ball staying put. Adding the lb core to that also. That’s where games are won, we can always out-scheme teams as long as our lines are strong.
Pretty funny because I just get off the phone with my wife (she graduated from Alabama and likes football but was still probably happy to get me off the phone), where I'd literally just cited Saban's record at Michigan St, then I read this.Let me ask this for a second. It’s not one high school kid. It’s half of our 5 and 4 stars players. This wasn’t handled the right way. I don’t know who’s to blame but this is not going to be good for Bama and the immediate future and possibly long term if the coaches don’t work out. What are some of you getting bent out of shape over a high
school kid who hasn't played a down for us. It's no coincidence that CKD brings in a qb and Sayin leaves.
It's called competition. Coach wants to see who rises to the top. We couldn't be in better hands than CKD and staff.
Roll Tide!
The only way this could have been "handled right" is that the new admin keep the assistants from the previous admin. That wasn't in the cards and I'm glad that didn't happen. There are other football players out there that want to play at Alabama. The quitters will leave. It’s not one high school kid. It’s half of our 5 and 4 stars players. This is the best staff since the last national championship staff, most of the ones on that staff went with Sark, correct?Agreed.
What people forget...because we are filled with emotions about all that's going on....we forget that we've had a massive coaching staff change. We've had the best of all time retire.
We also seem to wash over the fact that the last few years, with talent covering up issues, that we've steadily been coming back to the pack. Saban had us so far out in front that coming back to the pack still leads to being in the championship picture.
I've said it before, I'll say it again....we will purge the kids that came to play for Saban....we'll have a transition period....but my goodness, we have a staff that is better than what we've had in several years. Once they get settled we'll be fine.
wannabeIt’s not one high school kid. It’s half of our 5 and 4 stars players. This wasn’t handled the right way. I don’t know who’s to blame but this is not going to be good for Bama and the immediate future and possibly long term if the coaches don’t work out.
DeBoer doesn't have to create a culture here like Saban did, he's inheriting one. We'll sort of have an idea of how this is going to shake out by the end of next November, but don't be surprised if the team we end up fielding, who ever that is, is inconsistent throughout the first year. Don't' forget CNS's first year at Bama.
So what is/was the “right” way to handle all this? I see this comment time and time again that everything has been done “wrong” yet no one wants to say what “should” have been done. It’s not one high school kid. It’s half of our 5 and 4 stars players. This wasn’t handled the right way. I don’t know who’s to blame but this is not going to be good for Bama and the immediate future and possibly long term if the coaches don’t work out.
