Has anyone else considered the possibility that NIL could be used to work around scholarship limitations? If a school’s numbers are tight, what’s stopping that school/boosters/collective from using NIL money to cover the costs of what a full athletic scholarship would cover?
This could legit get abused but would likely be used to get lower tier players who’d demand less money

Anybody hear of a team meeting in which Milroe and Downs got into it verbally. That Downs knew he was leaving and was missing workouts, group meetings, etc. He came to the team meeting and Milroe told him to get in or to get out. No more straddling the fence. ??
If true and Milroe took a leadership position; good for him. We will need that going forward

Our collective had a 7 figure offer over 2 years to Downs that he verbally accepted. He wanted to stay. His dad after the offer shopped it with OSU to get more. That tells you all you need to know...
That is why I won’t ever get to mad about 18-20 year old kids they have a lot of adults in their ear making decisions whether it family/friends/mentors that are using them to get things.

I’m not sure exactly who all it was but several people have reported that several players wanted extra money for playing in the rose bowl. No wonder Saban retired.

But without Bryant or Saban, Alabama is an average 8-9 win team in its history...
Coach Stallings won an average of 10 games per season. An SEC and a National Championship, too. Both his predecessor and successor won or shared SEC titles. When no-chance coaches like sweater boy and coach clap clap can bring home some hardware, it's obvious that Bama is something special. Cream always rises. You can only hold that beachball underwater for so long.

But if a blind hog finds a turnip every now and then, why has aubie not found a legit championship since 1958?

Look again, that 1958 one was with "bought" players...

At this point I don't think optics, or possibly even the courts will allow for the NCAA to tighten the rules around the transfer portal in any way that will restrict the players ability to transfer. The paste is already out of the tube on that one.

So why then can't the NCAA put some restrictions around the schools with regards to accepting players from the transfer portal? Each team gets 85 scholarships, so then limit the number of transfers that a school can accept to 9 players a calendar year (roughly 10% of the scholarship allotment). The players can still enter the portal all they want, but the schools will have to be a bit more selective in who they pursue. I would also consider putting a restriction within the 9 allowable transfers that no more than 3 or 4 players can come from one particular school during the calendar year as well. That could put a limit on pulling something like what Lincoln Riley did when he tried to take half of his Oklahoma team with him to USC.

With regards to coaching changes and the 30 day window that comes with that situation....I think a solution would be to only let those players that have completed 2 seasons with the school be eligible for the 30 day transfer window. The older guys with less eligibility have more exposure during a coaching change due to the system of the new coach not fitting with the skill sets of some of those players....so let them finish out their career at a place that is more suited with their skill set.

The schools are collectively going to have to come up with a solution that doesn't involve the NZAA...and THAT will be the beginning of the end for them.

That, if true, is a major infraction. Our collective can give that to a player on our roster but another schools collective cannot offer or promise as incentive to move.

People keep posting that this is happening and yet we see no proof. If the NCAA was willing to go after FSU then maybe they will start investigating some of these claims. Right now it’s all just a bunch of yada yada rumors that keep getting repeated until people believe that they are the truth.

If these claims that players are being offered NIL by the schools or collectives prior to enrolling is true and the NCAA is going to completely ignore it then they might as well just fold up shop and start over.
