Middle East tensions are mounting.....also to include latest Gaza news.....

I had in mind domestic criticism. At a time of international conflict Americans used to close ranks but not with today’s GOP.
There has been more "closing of the ranks" during the Pax Americana, but our past is checkered. There has always been a strong isolationist vein in the American body politic, and it nearly tore the nation apart, both before WWI and WWII. Example - this is a pic of the Bund gathering in Madison Square Garden, on George Washington's birthday. It was replete with "Heil Hitlers," and boos for President Roosevelt. There were 20,000 there...Bund troops.jpg

Recent PBS story about this:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is calling on the United States and its allies to restore funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), warning it risks a humanitarian disaster in Gaza.

The Biden administration froze aid after Israeli allegations, deemed credible by the U.S., that a dozen of the agency’s workers participated in the Oct. 7 attack on Israeli civilians.
The U.N. has fired nine of the 12 staff workers accused of collaborating with Hamas. One of the workers identified in the allegations is dead.

Sanders earlier this month forced the Senate to vote on a resolution requiring the State Department to provide a report within 30 days on any human rights violations committed during the invasion of Gaza. Under that proposal, if the State Department failed to meet the deadline, assistance to Israel would have been frozen.

Only 11 senators voted to advance that resolution.

I saw John Bolton on Morning Joe today, he’s got a book out and wants to bomb Iran, which has been his position for as long as I can remember. He made his case while holding his fire against Biden. He had criticism of course, but it wasn’t belligerant and the like.

I flip about the different stations, and caught another interview with Bolton on CNN. This time, he was spitting fire at the Biden administration. A totally different attitude. He knew he would get pushback on MSNBC so he moderated what he said when he was on that station, but he really cut loose on CNN.

Supposedly he went off on Trump in an interview on Fox News. He’s making the rounds, but why?

The reason we have not retaliated is because immediately after the attack......our opponent moved out of the area and now we don't know where they are - or they are somewhere we don't want to bomb.

They knew retaliation was a possibility and didn't wait around to "find out".

Smart move and is what I would have done.

I've heard several politicians opine that we don't want to retaliate because we don't want to mess up any peace talks with Hamas.

LOL........wow. Talk about spin.......
