Good morning!

People can post here anytime they want and say whatever they want unless it's a violation of the rules.

Further......you would think the regulars who post here would encourage newcomers, regardless of their political leanings.

When conversations are reduced, things tend to spiral downward.

If anything emphasis should remain to be civil to each other and if you don't like what someone says offer a counterpoint or just scroll past it.

Whenever I frequent any forum my goal is to cultivate friendships where possible and have fun.

Lastly......these politicians are getting filthy rich off division. I don't know about you but I'm not going to play their game. Screw 'em!

All are welcome as far as I'm concerned. However, it's so blatantly obvious that both sides are anything but the same, when someone posts that they are, that poster can expect his opinion to be laid bare.

Just to be clear, I never said “both sides are the same”. I’m simply saying it should NEVER come down to two candidates like this, where neither are good candidates. That does not mean they’re the same. It means we keep recycling the same crappy humans in politics every four years, and no one seems to care. Voting for a candidate because they are the lesser of two evils doesn’t actually solve anything. I understand that I can’t do anything about it, so I largely stay out of it.

Maybe I took @twofbyc wrong, but it sounded like I was not welcome. Honestly I would rather just stay out of it entirely because I know there’s no winning. I don’t mean winning for myself, I mean for everyone as Americans. Society doesn’t even know what a woman is anymore, so I don’t know what I expect. Shrug I guess.

My niece is 16 years old. Her best friend (a girl) is currently living with her and my sister for reasons that aren’t germane to this discussion. They are both teenagers living in the same room. Recently, the friend changed her name and now identifies as a boy. My wife, whom I love with all my heart, asked me “do you think we should be worried since a boy and a girl are living in the same room?”

I just stared at her at the ridiculousness of the question. My wife is in the MEDICAL FIELD for crying out loud and should know better. We are living in a damn clown world and people want to deny it’s happening.

Kids who are desperate for attention are capable of damn near anything. Peer pressure is still very much a thing as well. But I think this goes a little deeper than that.

Remember, kids today are being taught that they are either an oppressor or one of the oppressed. If they fall into the role of oppressor due to their sex or the color of their skin, just grow your hair out and put on a dress and presto change-o, now they are part of the victim class. And their parents are okay with it because now they are victims by proxy. (After all, this is their kid you’re talking about.)

Certainly, a higher percentage of Gen Z identifies as LGBTQ+, but that number is not near 40% per the latest information I've seen, posted below.

I guess if I had a follow up question it would be this:

What does it matter and how does it affect you in any material way how someone else lives their life?

I don't see it as a tragedy or even a problem, what other people do with themselves when it causes no real harm.

This is where we get into gender vs sex and things do get quite complicated - I'll give you that.

And Cambridge has tweaked the definition it gives for "woman" to include transgender women.

And even though I have pretty much daily interactions with transgender and/or nonbinary persons there is much I don't understand about it.

But just because I don't have a complete understanding of it doesn't mean I need to be afraid or have any less respect for them than I do anyone else.

Who they are and what they do has little to no direct effect on me.

The results of the vitriol sent their way has far more effect in the sense that I am concerned about their welfare because there are far too many people who wish them harm.

I don't believe there is much evidence at all for this narrative of attention-getting or peer pressure or even the oppressor/oppressed.

Is it possible there are some vulnerable folks who might go along to get along? Sure, I guess it's possible and even probable.

But AFAIK there is no evidence that what is going on is a fad brought on by anything you've mentioned here in any appreciable numbers.
