Are Texas and Oklahoma officially SEC yet, meaning if we sign someone from those schools in the portal do they have to sit out a year?
I would think they would be considered Big12. They don't officially join the SEC until July 1, 2024 so they should not have to sit out a season if they transfer to a SEC school.

July 1, 2024

The Sooners' and Longhorns' arrival to the SEC will be made official on July 1, 2024, when the Division I calendar for the 2024-25 academic season officially begins

J’Mond Tapp is a former 4* Edge that Saban offered in ‘22 entering portal from the Horns. Know nothing about him though.

SEC has apparently ruled they are off limits

Seems kind of odd that he only threw 9 passes in a situation where his passing is the biggest question mark. The fact he only completed 3 of them is pitiful.

I didn't watch the game due to a prior commitment, but those numbers are pretty awful.
The numbers are totally misleading. There were arguably 4 drops and 1 throwaway. Jalen actually threw the ball fairly well. Much better than last year. He got rid of the ball more quickly. Ty threw mostly vs the undermanned 2 defense. He only played 7 plays with 1s vs 1s, Jalen played 21 vs the 1s, none vs the 2s supposedly.

When pointing out Jalen's good numbers from last year, some say "but you've got to watch the game, numbers can be misleading". That's true, and it works both ways.

The key will be pass protection. If we get that fixed, all our QBs will be just fine. I agree it does seem like Milroe is making quicker decisions. I am glad DeBoer told him that most QBs can throw but he has elite speed and he shouldn't be afraid to use it when needed.

But also know that A day is a dog and pony show specifically designed for the fans. Being at the Rec scrimmage and A day I can definitively tell you that Womack was told to tone down his defense in the first half because there were far more exotic blitzes and coverages in the REC scrimmage that totally bamboozeled our quarterbacks.

Also our second string aside from RB and TE is very lacking at this point in time. They have a very hard time in getting separation or being able to block against the defense. So anyone that has a decent day quarterbacking with those guys right now is really good.

Well it’s because everytime someone wants to use nfl ratings to a college they are very rarely being honest or looking at the larger context while using them. Jalen Hurts in 2017 and Jalen Milroe 2023 have stats that look really great if you are looking at a NFL quarterback and really alarming if you are looking at a college football quarterback.

But like I said in another thread… I think it’s probably more accurate that we probably had the wrong two running backs starting last year than the wrong quarterback.

There is 0 reason or chance for that. He is the best qb currently on our team, one of the best in college football, loves Alabama and is lived by his teammates. His next stop is the fiest or second round of the 25 draft.

Fans are fickle.

On top of all that starting qbs won't enter in the spring portal. Thats more of a post season thing. Right now almost every team knows who its starters are and qbs portaling are likely backups
This is False.

If it's your opinion that's fine but you are stating it like it's a fact.

Like the NIL, I wonder if the NIL paid to a player will dictate their priority playing status over a better performing player who was awarded less NIL? We could be entering an era where the best player may not be starting.

Nothing to go on, but I am concerned that might be the situation with JM and TS...

It's the opinion of most everyone outside of TideFans. Sports writers, coaches, and fans alike tend to agree. He ended last year #6 in the Heisman voting I think it was. And he's improved since then. I see the statement as true.

Those who have been at the scrimmages (not just A Day) and practices are saying he still cannot read defenses. He can rack up Heisman numbers all day but not being able to read defenses will keep us from either winning the conference or a national title, or both. He is still struggling with what he struggled with last season. You don't have to believe that and that's fine. But he is...

Who is "those"? I haven't heard anything like that. And I read and listen to quite a lot. Show me where someone at practices said that.

Has he improved on making pre-snap reads? If a read option is called, can he now read the DE or make the short throw or take the right angle if he keeps it? Can he hit slants consistently? Can he hit a hot route? Can he get the ball out quicker?
