Could be a silent majority.
JM supporters are in the minority but they are not silent...at least the most ardent ones. I'm not talking media hacks who are after clicks. I'm talking about real fans like the ones who post here. Very few are loudly defending his QB play on the field because, frankly, that's the issue.

Some, ignore the facts and pump their own feelings into the discussion. They claim he's going to be fully healed of all past sicknesses and when someone asks for evidence that person doubles down with a statement like "he's going to surprise you; he's working hard; he beats everybody to the gym, he placed 6th in Heisman voting..."

If there's a "silent majority" it may be in those who are really hoping he makes the big jump in improvement, but so far they really haven't seen it, but still hope, but they just stay out of it.

I think we look back on him a little more positively than we otherwise would've, due to the way he handled the situation with such grace and class.
And the fact the way he turned out to be an MVP type NFL QB.

It affects the JM situation in so many ways because they see how JH turned it around too. And that is the hope, but the real concern is JM, as a 3rd year player lacks so many of the the QB intangibles that JH had as a true freshman.

But that's the question. Can JM improve in one off season as much as JH improved in 3 years???

There is nothing silent about Milroe’s supporters. They will not shut up about how good he is.
I think you are confusing people defending Milroe for being a bad QB with how good he is. I don't recall posters not "shutting their mouths" about how good he is but if that is the way you see it it's OK. The eye of the beholder....

I didn’t say anything about posters here. People on social media literally will not shut up about how “Milroe is gonna win the Heisman” or how “Milroe is gonna be the #1 pick in the draft”. It’s exhausting.

Tirade is maybe not the correct word.

But it was an emotionally charged outburst of Expletives about a 'Me' Award.

In a 1,000 Different Worlds under a 1,000 different circumstances I could not see Jalen Hurts acting like that.

Which ultimately was my point... I believe.

This is why I come to Tidefans. There is debate on both sides of this story.

I saw a video last night on X that showed several JM throws as he's working with Palmer.

The throws highlighted on the video were not in a game situation but simply him making mostly short to medium range throws.

What I saw in the video actually looked like some improvement in throwing motion. Tighter, quicker release and even on those short throws they were good, tight spirals, which is probably his biggest "arm" weakness.

So maybe there is some improvement in throwing motion.

That means nothing if he doesn't improve on pre and post snap reads and being able to do it under pressure, but just thought I'd note what seems to be some improvement in one area he's struggled in.

At minimum he should get good mechanical work from working with Palmer. The in game reads and all that stuff is much, much harder to simulate in practice. I'm sure there is film work Palmer does with Milroe to try to address that area but at the end of the day, the player still has to execute in a game and make the right reads in a game environment. But if he's improving his mechanics that is a good thing.

Good, I hope he works his butt off to fix his mechanics. Live game action though....tends to revert folks to their bad habits. Hopefully he works enough where he can feel what he did wrong. Similar to when I'm teaching hitting to the youngins....once they've had a few years of training, you don't have to tell them what they did....you can basically remind them because they already felt what they did wrong.

I'm hoping with the work he's getting from Palmer which almost certainly includes film study and the coaching he's getting from our staff, he will have noticeable improvement. However, and hopefully this doesn't kick over the fire ant bed of the Milroe party, but it didn't look great during A Day. There are still months away and a lot of practice and personal work to do. So I'm not saying it won't happen. I'm just saying he wasn't there when A Day was played. He looked just like last season.

I know the big struggle with me in golf, for instance, is the real (right mechanics) never feels good. Contrast with my basketball shooting mechanics and the feel was the ideal real, but what that means is I just came by it more naturally. But anytime a sport requires you to change what is natural, it is difficult to get to a high level very fast.

I posted my take on the video to say I think JM is really working to be better. The obvious struggle is he has a long way to go and a short time to get there.

That's the biggest issue though isn't it......once its a live game and he's got guys trying to take his head off....he's not going to be worried about his mechanics because he's going to be trying to process what he should be reading and hasn't been able to, including A-Day.

When the rubber meets the road, who can make the necessary reads along with the throws that are needed? Is it Milroe? His past performances say no. Is it Simpson? He really has no past performances, although A-Day looked promising. But A-day performances can be fools gold.

When we kickoff vs WKU, I'd expect Milroe to do fine....mostly. Same for USF. I'd also hope Simpson gets substantial action in those 2 games....before we get into the teeth of the schedule.
