Alabama QBs in 2024, II

Rocket scientists and brain surgeons are really smart but 99.9% of them could NOT play QB at a high level.

It's not about his I.Q. If he struggles to process an offense it's no reflection on his intelligence. He graduated in 3 years and is currently working on his Masters.
In the past I watched with great pride to see college players graduating early and persuing graduate degrees. Now it has become very common and is promoted in the media. I realized one day how difficult it was for me to accomplish a degree and graduate. I worked but certainly not as much as college athletes are required to do relating to their sport. I have become suspicious of the entire process of creating a degree factory for college athletes for obvious purposes.

It was hard enough watching it the first 3-4 times. I think I will take your word for it. After 60 + years of obsessing on Alabama Football I am trying hard to avoid ESPN and the media that can't contain itself about Milroe ( They have him as a top competitor for the Heisman). There are less stressful ways to spend my Saturdays!
It's my hope they are right about Milroe and some of us are wrong.

I don't think Milroe has to be as great as some think he is (or think he can be) in order for him to be good enough to lead us to a championship.

He just has to be better than he was last year, imo.

Processing and reacting to plays better in real-time is what he has to get better at or we won't make it as far as we did last season. There won't be another "gravedigger" in 2024.

Yup.

The question is how much better he has to be for us to be a championship contender. I don't think he has to develop Bryce Young like processing ability, but he has to be better at it.

Welcome to the club who also has had to be told to take seriously GW Bush as a Yale grad and a Graduate of Harvard Master of Business. SO many legacy fake degrees.

Power and money protects itself and you and I can lump it.

N.B. Harvard was AFTER they failed to browbeat or buy off University of Texas School of Law.

I'm certainly staying out of politics, but I will continue the 'straying off of the topic' in this thread by saying this: I know a guy who went to Harvard for undergrad, and his favorite quote was "the hardest thing about Harvard was getting in".

He said the classes were easy (some were borderline jokes, he claimed), they let him take whatever courses he wanted, and in the end, when he couldn't decide on a major, they let him 'create' one to go on his degree. He said there's a reason that Harvard has the nation's highest graduation rate (currently 98%): they don't want anyone to fail because it would make them look bad.

Again, I don't bring this up to wade into politics at all; I'm simply saying that - based on the anecdotal evidence I have been given - many of the Ivies could be reasonably accused of giving out "fake degrees" to more than just celebrities and the kids of the 1%.

I was making a point. I like TS ok. He has improved some, but I don't believe he has what it takes to lead the offense through the season and into the playoff. He looked really meh in the South Florida game last year.

I think the quarterback position is in capable hands with both Milroe and Simpson. I don't see how you can make a broad brush statement like that about Simpson because of one game yet watched game after game of Milroe making fundamental quarterback 101 mistakes and think he's the second coming of Jesus Christ at QB. LOL!

Simpson physically has what it takes to get the job done at QB, but we do not have enough "film" on him as we do Milroe to see where his weaknesses are in his game. That's the hard part about making judgments regarding Simpson at this point. The most recent thing we have to go by is the spring game and just in that game, he outplayed Milroe.

Would dropping the ball before crossing the goal line be considered a 101 mistake? Look, Ty may be up to the challenge of leading the Tide to the playoffs. I just haven't seen evidence of that yet. And when I go back and watch film from last year, I don't see all that 101 stuff. There was some here and there. But nothing like what you and others say. Jalen played well last year for the most part. Too many sacks, even with the OL causing many of them. He otherwise did well. Well enough to put him in the Heisman talk for 2024. And Jalen has said the sacks won't be an issue this year. I believe him. I do think the coaching staff are helping him clean things up.

What's fascinating about this discussion, that's been ongoing for over a year now, is that you have one side that thinks Simpson is the better option based on A Day, mop up time, or just a general belief that he is. On the other side you have those that think after 3 years and a full year of starting that Milroe is going to eliminate a lot of his short comings. I have don't know the right answer, though I do put a ton of faith in the coaches that seem to continue to put Milroe higher on the depth chart than Simpson.
