Cole Cublic was saying it all broadcast on first and second down. That Vandy was running this or that play to set up their 3rd down plays. He was all over it but our staff was not.
You know, I'm not so sure the staff wasn't prepared and didn't make adjustments. I watched George Teague break things down with another coach and the staff, for the most part was calling good defense (per George and his coach friend) but the players were tentative and a step slow.
Add too that, there were several plays where the defensive alignment was correct with what the offense was showing but the offense ran the play in a totally opposite direction and if the defense lined up according to the way the play was run previously then they changed the direction of the play again. Hard to defend against that when you don't have but about 4 or five days to prepare and the other team has been working on this all spring, summer and fall to beat you.
Add to that, Pavia is a really good qb and very quick in thought and high football IQ. I noticed that he was very decisive and didn't hesitate at any time during the game.
Also, although our offense did score enough for us to win they didn't do our defense any favors in not sustaining drives and kind of equaling out TOP.
