Bama Game Thread: CFP Selection Show details (12p-4p EST ESPN): Times, where to watch; Selection show 'game thread'

  • Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family from all of your fellow TideFans! Be safe and be blessed!
I'm disappointed... but we DID lose 3 games - two being horrendously bad losses. In any other year the playoffs wouldn't even be a glint in our eye. Bottom line: We had control of our destiny and laid an egg in Norman. So be it.
I'm hopeful we use the bowl game to get game practice for whoever is going to be with the team for the 2025 season. IMO the practice and game experience for the 2025 returnees matters more than winning the game.
I also hope Coach takes a good look at the OC play-calling. In Norman, it seemed the preferred play was to run Milroe left, right, and up the middle for 1/2 yard per rush. I suspect (hope?) that wasn't Milroe improvising, but was Milroe trying to run the play that was called.

Onward and upward! Roll Tide!!

Most milroe runs are zone reads where he's supposed to be reading a player and deciding to give or run himself so to some degree it is him calling his own number.

I'm a Broncos fan. I can tell you I would be very disappointed if we needed a QB and drafted Milroe. I would expect any NFL fan to feel the same way if they're serious about their team.
That is exactly how NFL teams will see him. I will be surprised if he gets drafted before the third or fourth round. I am convinced that his only chance for success in the NFL is to be a full back or tight end.

Not a bad decision, if true. Alabama fans won't care about the game, and the players might mail it in

playing Duke in the Gator bowl or playing a Mickey mouser in the Texas bowl is our fate. Maybe we can get Miami or Michigan in some bowl but Alabama is a huge draw so some scooter poor bowl is going to jump at us.

I don’t know if McElroy is stupid, or is just pretending to be stupid.

Saban pointed out the problem. It’s the same thing that happened with TCU. When you rank the chumps too high early in the season, and they have cupcake schedules, then when they don’t lose you cannot move them down to where they actually should be ranked. Army only lost one game, but they never sniffed the playoffs because they were never ranked too high to begin with.

The main issue was that SMU never should have been ranked 8 without playing some decent teams. If they and Clemson were both ranked low enough to be out of the playoffs, then they would have been playing for one berth last night, which is exactly what should have happened.

The committee paints themselves into a corner early in the year, then they squirm around trying to get themselves out.

I have to agree that the committee chose the least controversial selection where SMU/Alabama is concerned. But we all need to remember that we could have avoided being on the edge of the cliff by simply winning. Winning essentially takes that option away from the committee. The team failed to do enough to justify a place in the playoffs. There is more than one reason for falling short, but at the top of my list is Milroe. Sure, he had great moments, but too many terrible moments that cost this team. I hope this issue is gone for 2025.

I’ve said all along that if we didn’t make it, we had no one to blame but ourselves. It was right in front of us. Don’t lose to Vandy and certainly not to 6-6 Oklahoma team.

My point was the committee was hedging their bets with Bama’s placement last Tuesday…

True but we should be playing to a standard. If we do that, we get in every single year. Losing 3 games especially to two 6-6 teams, we have no argument for inclusion. I'd much rather our play demonstrate our merit. If you lose 1 game, no one will leave you out of any 12 team playoffs.

Not picking on you specifically, but I'm starting to hate this argument in relation to a 12 team playoff. We sucked compared to our own standard, that standard was first set on being one of the top two teams in the country, which we did very well for a long time. I still want that, and hope to see it next season and every season afterward if nil and the like doesn't completely ruin the game. We were the fourth best team in unquestionably the best conference. We blew the chance to be higher, got it, but don't agree that we were not one of the top teams qualified to be in a 12 team field.

McElroy is just reading the script ESPN gave him.
