I know some people feel that way, but that’s not what I was addressing. It’s that a few posters seem to use the “both sides” comment to avoid taking a stance on an issue. It happened when Biden was president, too. The administration or party does something and rather than take a stand or express an opinion, we get a “both sides are guilty of this” statement. It usually seems to be a way to avoid expressing support for the action while at the same time moving the conversation away from the original topic. It’s almost as if some folks don’t want to take any responsibility for the issues/actions they support.
So, both sides use the "both sides" argument?

Seriously, I (and others) use that argument to counter the excessively juvenile tribal stance that is little more than "my political party is noble, wise, and awesome, while your party is comprised of Nazis (who tend to be aloof)." We thankfully don't have much of that silliness here anymore, as the children have moved on to vandalizing Teslas, leaving this board the better for it.

After 9 Republicans rebel, House Speaker Johnson fails to stop proxy voting effort led by new moms in Congress

House Speaker Mike Johnson exercised his power of the gavel Tuesday in an unusually aggressive effort to squash a proposal for new parents in Congress to be able to vote by proxy, rather than in person, as they care for newborns.

His plan failed, 206-222.

Jeffries: Elon Musk was just decisively rejected by the voters of Wisconsin. He tried to use his unlimited resources to buy a state Supreme Court seat in Wisconsin—and it failed spectacularly.
So Schimel had a billionaire in his corner and Crawford had two: Soros and Pritzker. Congress really needs to put a stop to this, but that would be like asking them to stop collecting their paychecks.

As a reminder that while Minnesota HAS elected some admired and respected public officials like Hubert Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, and Walter Mondale, they have also elected:

Harold Stassen - who ran for President more than Pat Paulsen and about as successfully

Jesse Ventura - an independent whose claim to fame was being a professional wrestler

Paul Wellstone - lionized in his tragic death, he was the first pot smoking radical elected to the Senate

Tim Walz - I mean, this guy would be considered a creep outside of a bus station or public bathroom (I'm referring to his deranged look, not to any criminal behavior, folks)

Al Franken - a professional comedian and actor

Michele Bachman - I know it's easy to elect kooks at the House level but.....still!!!!

The pillow guy wouldn't be all that out of the ordinary among some of these folks.

Stassen became a bit of a joke in later years for running for president every time. But in 1948 he was seen as a serious candidate. He might have even actually defeated Truman.

He resigned as governor of Minnesota to join the Navy during WWII and lost ground politically to Tom Dewey while he was gone. Also a long time supporter of civil rights.

I’d definitely put him on the plus side of Minnesota politicians.

I actually agree with the general assessment. He's one of those who became a bigger joke because of his constant running for President.

He was also the guy who when he became President at Penn University WANTED - way back in 1950 - to put as much college football on TV as possible and got shot down by the fearmongers who deluded themselves into, "If the game is on TV, we won't have anybody in the stands!"

Obama: Imagine if I had done any of this. Imagine if I had pulled Fox News’ credentials from the White House press corps. Imagine if I had said to law firms that were representing parties that were upset with policies my administration had initiated, that you will not be allowed into government buildings. We will punish you economically for dissenting from the Affordable Care Act or the Iran deal. We will ferret out students who protest against my policies.

It’s unimaginable that the same parties that are silent now would have tolerated behavior like that from me, or a whole bunch of my predecessors.

He would have been in prison or dead...

MTG’s ex-husband apologized to some Muslim women who he harassed by yelling slurs at them while they were praying. He was driving a Tesla cybertruck while was yelling at them.

Good for him for apologizing but I wonder if he would have done so had he not been caught on video.
