So we'll need to hold a spot and NIL money in case he changes his mind?

If he changes his mind a month from now he wouldn't be able to enter the portal, correct? We'll have to have money available, at least as much as he would make in the developmental league.

This stuff really gets complicated.
I'm sure the communications with Philon's people and Alabama are very open and a plan is in place if he does or does not decide to come back. Hoping he does.

Yeah... the timing of the portal relative to the NBA draft is tough to navigate. The truth is, if we knew he was gone right now, we could go get the best PG available due to the available funds. I'm sure there's a plan in place, BUT it's a plan with diminishing options and has a real chance of negatively affecting our ability to construct a roster.

I would be shocked if he wasn't gave a hard deadline on when he was to make a decision. I think the original headline was probably accurate in that he is going to the NBA. We more than likely are looking for a replacement as we speak. I wish him nothing but the best and could see a return being very beneficial to him but I also understand the allure to making the jump.

There are whispers that are claiming Philon has left the door open to returning if the draft options don't fall his way... similar to what Sears did last year. The announcement didn't read that way, but that's what some are saying. TIFWIW
Makes way more sense

They should have a decent amount of money left now they they have answers from Reid, Stevenson, and Philon look to be gone. I think they make push for Pierre or Ian Jackson then bring in the guy from Mississippi State Murphy then either go after a point guard or Rylan Griffin.
Murphy has committed to Auburn so he's out of the picture.

Current roster
2 guys returning from last years team Holloway and Sherrill
2 guys coming back from medical redshirts
3 guys coming from high school
3 guys coming from transfer portal
They might need name tags to start the year.
We have had five or less returning players for the last 3-4 years so it is not new ground. It is the new landscape of the transfer portal/NIL. I saw where Bucky McMillan at A&M has no returning players.

Nick Pringle plans to try his luck with Arkansas now. Him and Baker Mazara going to be the senior league players in the SEC.

As the roster stands RIGHT NOW, it is lacking for sure. However, CNO has proved to us in the past that he does know how to work the portal. I expect him to work his magic again.

Something needs to change about the transfer portal window, extend it or open it later so those who are testing the draft waters don't leave their previous teams high and dry. If the player has the free ability to come and go, the college should be able to do the same with its roster. That may make too much sense for the NCAA though.

Don't even get me started on the portal opening while the NCAA tournament is still going on...o_O

Doesn't feel like a need anyways. I'd rather have Griffen. We do need a pure scorer, but I'm still skeptical Eaglestaff is that in the SEC.
I’m more with you but I’m iffy on Griffen mostly because he had a poor season whether it was fit or not he just didn’t play well. A little because it’s annoying he left and that it’s killing the fun and rooting for players.

I would be more for Eaglestaff if he was a facilitator but it doesn’t seem like it so he is more take or leave. With that said I’ll take both vs not getting anyone. Just seems like we really need a facilitator.
