It's not "free speech" Huck.
These people are held to standards just like we are on this forum.
Especially when someone is assassinated.
But it all boils down to people not being able to contain themselves and follow decorum......because of their politics.
If the government is the one handing out the consequences, then there are no longer any First Amendment rights.
I don't care how distasteful something may be, as long as it doesn't cross the standardized broadcast boundaries, the government should play ZERO role in the broadcast.

I've been clear in my feelings about those who make distasteful remarks about the murder, but nothing justifies the government cracking down on free speech. The First Amendment has zero to do with this forum. The US Constitution is not owned by Trump.
FYI: ABC is owned by Nexstar.......neither one is part of the government......
The threats from the government to pull FCC licenses are what led to Nexstar's actions. That is inexcusable and un-American - at least, in what used to be America.

Here's the reality:
“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,†said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “We do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located.â€Â
There is little real difference between the threat and real action to investors and business owners. It is unbelievably wrong for the government to threaten to put you out of business if you don't speak and act as it pleases. I honestly can't believe that I'm having to argue this point.
This is the reality:
The ABC late-night host’s remarks constituted “the sickest conduct possible,†FCC chair Brendan Carr told right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson on Wednesday. Carr suggested his FCC could move to revoke ABC affiliate licenses as a way to force Disney to punish Kimmel.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,†Carr said. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take actions on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.â€Â
"Real nice network you have there...it'd be a shame if anything happened to it."
We'll just have to agree to disagree.
Because I say a threat is VERY much different than an action.
ABC and Nexstar are well within' their right to do whatever they want wrt their programming. And this is a decision THEY made. Based on THEIR standards as pointed out in my previous post.
The fact that after Colbert got canned Trump literally said “Kimmel is next†kinda shows that this had nothing to do with what he said and all to do with how he insulted Trump for the better part of a decade

Referring to this: "The Maga Gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."? Hell, people on this board do the same damn thing whenever a right wonger goes on a shooting spree. Are they threatened by the truth?

Bottom line: This administration is abusing its authority to quash dissent on multiple fronts. Just as the Founding Fathers intended.
You know what COULD be called "the sickest conduct possible"? Pedophilia.
Based on their standards, or based on the threat from the federal government?
I'll disagree this time and on the next occasion where Trump threatens to destroy a business if they don't do what he wants. If someone points a gun at your face and tells you to do as they say or they'll shoot, most people would find that to be unreasonable coercion.
When the FCC is threatening major and local cable companies with fines if the air a show then it’s really not the parent company’s decision to pull it.
If Kimmel really said something abhorrent then I would be on board with a fine, but really didn’t. This is a reaction by Trump of someone who has gotten rich off dunking off of him for years.
Plus this happened Monday night and there was absolutely no reaction to it until about a few hours ago. What was the mango doing? Watching Monday night raw on Netflix?
