Do we think Ty wins the Heisman?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

He should be working on year 3 as a starter.
Agree 100%, but for whatever reasons or reason he didn't start those games is likely what has driven him to keep honing his craft.

I know there is NO WAY to replicate a game situation (especially ones like against UGA on the road OR UT at home last week) but so far what Ty has done in prepping for his time looks like it worked.

I sure hope other young QBs (especially those we are recruiting) don't miss out on how sitting a year or two isn't a kiss of death but instead may be to your advantage.

NFL quarterbacks with a higher amount of college game experience may have a better success rate but not necessarily because they played more in college. They likely have more college experience because they have a higher talent level than most, which has a bigger impact on their success rate in the NFL. I suspect the sample size of NFL quarterbacks with only one year of college game experience is small and that most players with NFL success, especially NFL-star success, earned starting positions early in their college career.

Correlation does not always point to cause. Giving a player in Simpon's situation another year as a college starter would likely benefit his entrance into the NFL but it may not make as much difference as the statistics indicate.

Getting drafted by a good team who isn't going to throw you into the fire without a functional offensive line like Bryce at Carolina is the most important part. I know you have to produce, but you still need time to develop and adjust to the intensity of the game.

As good as Ty has been this season the timing has not been good on his deep balls. The best one I remember so far is the one Williams dropped against Georgia. He's missed on most others this season both over and under thrown. Definitely not on the level of Mac Jones. Maybe the timing will get better after the week off.

The heisman winner last year was on a 4 loss team....wasn't in the top 5 statistically on either offensive or defensive category BUT was the media favorite. The heisman has become a popularity award vs an earned award....Ty has earned it so far

He was a unicorn

The one thing Ty has going for him is that he has a story that everyone likes. I mean how can you not like “he waited years in which he could’ve transferred” kind of story.

The two things going against him is that 1) he isn’t flashy and 2) he has had two so so games.

I think it’s more likely that he gets passed by a guy no one is thinking about in November. But if he wins the next 5 without any crazy letdowns then it’s probably his.

He's in the running. I think the Indiana QB or Sayin might win it though. The fumbles are going to start to hurt Ty's chances.

Stockton may have an outside shot too. Same with Chambliss at Ole Miss. If Georgia Tech beats UGA King might have a chance too but I think UGA beats them GT hasn't played anyone.

It seems like Heisman odds are extremely volatile. He will probably go down a bit this week, that was not a great performance for most of the game.

His downside is he does not have many "Heisman moments", he just makes great decisions with really good throws into tight windows most of the time, and he is the most valuable player on the team. This should be the standard, but a photo-op player may jump him at the end.

I think the way Ty led the offense in coming back in the 4th quarter against S Carolina showed Heisman voters, as well as NFL scouts, a quarterback with poise, determination, resilience, and grit. I think the whole team is a bit tired, and will benefit greatly from the bye week. Ty will shake off this weird game with the chickens, and finish the season strong, with a very good chance of winning the Heisman. At this point, it's still up for grabs. But a strong finish with a win against A&M in the SEC Championship should put Ty at the top.

If Simpson has a stellar year and is top 2or3 , an objective assessment would give it to Simpson, but these things aren't purely objective, I can see a Payton Manning result.

I think Ty would need to not only get us to the playoffs, but go deep into the playoffs. Otherwise they are just going to give it to Miss Congeniality. a.k.a Pavia. Never expect any logical decisions from Heisman voters. It's all how the feel the morning they wake up and vote.

They decide and give out the Heisman before the playoffs so that doesn’t factor into it.

It’s always the week after CG weekend.

If we are 12-1 SEC Champs then I think he’ll win it….or 11-2 SEC Champs he’ll be at worst a finalist.

The only real threats are Mendoza and Sayin.

One of those two will probably be on a 13-0 B1G Champ team and have comparable stats.

It most likely comes down to who has the Best game on CG Weekend and wins.
