Coaching carousel 2025-26

I have heard so much on the Kiffin topic that I no longer believe anything he or anyone else reports or says regarding jilting Ole Miss for LSU. I feel for his Ole Miss players, but we all know life isn't always fair and things don't always go the way you want them to. It was obviously a decision he made and he and LSU will sink or swim with his hiring.

snarkers gonna snark. This is a big meh to me. You call on those you respect and trust when you need advice. CNS has ALWAYS supported his assistants. This, to me, is no different.

That said, Kiffin wants to use the cover of Saban and Carroll as his cover for why he left Ole Miss ("they told me to take the LSU job") when I bet that's not exactly the case. A post above says that Saban told him "think long and hard before leaving OM".

The way Lane hinted it , he was inferring Nick said it was a better job than Alabama.
I think Nick really appreciates his time at Bama and really enjoys the community, but he's said multiple times before that his biggest regret is leaving LSU. For a man that's driven by achievement, he'll always have a "what if" floating in the back of his mind. I don't like that Nick has been that vocal about it, but it is what it is.

When CNS left LSU, he had that program humming on autopilot. I mean two complete IDIOTS won a national championship after he departed. In this new NIL era, Indiana is proof positive that if you have enough $, anyone can do it. I agree with several posters and I take anything Lane says with a grain of salt.

It appears now that the petulant child(Kiffin) is going to "allow" most of his offensive assistants to coach during the CFP. Of course he had to add that he "contacted" the CFP committee and told them to go lenient on Ole MIss in the rankings. I have a suspicion that this is just more of his narcissism....because I'm sure the rankings had already been formulated.

He never met with his players on Sunday about his his decision to leave. The Leadership on the team went to meet with him but he refused. That says a lot. I personally verified it from the source!

I compared his exit to fRAN's departure from Alabama to Texas A&M in 2002, and I stand by it. He quit on his team. He lied to them, led them on, used them for his own personal gain.

He will live to regret this. Or maybe not, as narcissists tend to struggle with honest self-reflection.

Kiffen "claims" the A.D. would not let him meet with players. I don't think he said bye to Juice either

Bingo. He wins a national championship at LSU. Great! Even two idiots won NCs before you.

And he had better win at least one if he's worried about anything in his legacy. Up to now, his legacy has been to burn down the house on his way out the door from programs, or get fired....which is what happens to nearly every LSU coach not named Saban. I think Bill Arnsbarger was the last coach there that didn't get shown the door against his will.

I think he flames out in spectacular fashion.

If he’s not coaching perennial Top 5 teams and winning a NC the LSU fan base will be much harder on him than OM’s

They are absolutely unhinged as a fanbase.

I read so much on Monday where they displayed a complete detachment from reality.

Multiple folks were saying that LSU was THE premier job in CFB

Not Alabama or even tOSU….. LSU

LOL

When Kiffin is more likely going 10-2 or 9-3 and never winning any kind of Championship and/or getting bounced in the 1st round they will dig up and announce all his dirty little exploits in BR.

The noise will be so distracting and offensive to Lane’s narcissistic little lizard brain that he will go full on self destructive to himself and the program and in 5 years or less they will be right here again doing a HC search.

I can’t wait to watch this train wreck.

I don't understand how they could ever come to that conclusion (LSU being the premier job).

It's a great job, yes. The state is loaded with talent and there are no in-state power programs to compete with in recruiting, but they do have to compete with several behemoths who are right next door.

But one wonders how the university is going to be impacted by the severe financial strain its under due to its firing 3 consecutive coaches and owing buyouts. Yeah, NIL is largely funded by your rich alumni. How many of those does LSU really have? I guess enough. To me, they are a Costco version of Auburn. Their highs are followed by a lot of lows, and they constantly fire coaches and owe buyouts. It's just that their highs are a good bit higher than Auburn's, and their lows aren't as bad nor do they last quite as long. Usually.

His previous burning of bridges suggest he only learned enough to get a new job (FAU, Alabama, Ole Miss). He seems to not be able to stay in one place - Ole Miss is the longest job he's had as a HC.

There's too much talent in Louisiana for Kiffin to not be able to win a NC. Will he get out of his own way to achieve it? We'll see. Will he last 3 years there, regardless if he's fired or he moves onto someone else? We'll see.

Name another school where you can get all the corndogs you can eat.

This won’t go away. A friend from Pittsburgh, PSU alum, is telling me they are putting a full court press on Sexton behind the scenes. I assume especially now that Sitake has turned down Penn St. BTW, Carpenter is a management consultant, whatever that means..

You know what, technically, I don’t know how much Kalen DeBoer actually likes being the head coach at Alabama either. I have never had the chance to ask him. Me and this Carpenter fella have probably had the exact same number of conversations with DeBoer, zero. I am always amazed at the nobodies the sports media finds to "join" their shows.

Is LSU a better job right now, in the past, or in the future? Who cares? Coaches are highly competitive. They all have aspirations of taking a team all the way and hoisting that trophy at the end of the year.

Kiffin, this idiot, for the first time in his HC career, has a real shot at doing this, and he bailed. He quit on the #6 team in the country, a title contender, to take a job at a school currently unranked. Title contender to nothing. Everything you strive to achieve in a coaching career was within reach, and you decided the Music City Bowl was a better option.

I don't care what comes out of this guy's mouth, but if he truly liked being in Oxford, then he would still be there. Kiffin has been looking to leave ever since he was hired. He practically begged for the Bama job 2 years ago. If LSU had called in 2022, he would have left then as well. He was never staying in Oxford long term, and bailing on a national title chance is proof.

With all the coaches leaving CFP-contending schools right now, I never want to hear them whine about players opting out or entering the transfer portal early ever again. If the coaches can do it, so can the players.

That was in reference to leaving college football in general, not specifically LSU. Seeing so many players from LSU milling around the field after a NFL game, reminded him of how he and his wife could influence the lives of the kids.

I understand what you’re saying. But when he’s on air reminiscing about his time specifically at LSU, (which he does quite a bit), I could do without.
