News Article: selmaborntidefan & Elefantman & other TideFans quoted in IndyStar article today (12/30/25)

Greg is clearly trying to drum up some fake drama, trying give the Hoosiers a reason to use the "us .v. the world" card for motivation. Problem is, it's fake. In fact that world, imo, WANTS IU to win. .

But at the very least, Greg could sign up, login and chat with the same people he put on blast in his article. He owes us that.
its gregg with three g's, sir

The Society of Professional (sic) Journalists has principles governing this sort of thing. Two of them are:
  • Maintain professional distance (don’t get cozy with your subjects).
  • Avoid becoming part of the story (don’t cross the line from observer to participant).
What would make you think he’d violate these?

Then maybe he should not been lurking on a website of fans in the first place or quoting said fans. Just go with the standard "fans of X is arrogant" type statements, leave out the specific quotes of fans.

I can 100% understand, "I'm picking Indiana to win."

I cannot wrap my head around, "The Alabama team that lost to UGA and the first quarter of the OU game is the REAL Alabama," as if the five worst quarters we've played since Labor Day wash away anything good we did.

They keep comparing us with the national championship era teams at Alabama - that's how they're drawing their conclusions. And we don't have that coach or level of dominance.

But neither does Indiana, Gregg.
They don't believe our resume is real. "All SEC teams are overrated and the bowl record proves this!"

I guess he's trying to get Indiana motivated in some way by using the "no respect" strategy. They had lost 30 in a row to Ohio State so they had enough motivation for that game. Since our players had not made any comments he felt he had to dig into a football forum to find BB material. I'm sure we also could find some disrespectful comments made by Indiana fans about Alabama as well.

This isn't the first time Gregg Doyel got himself in the middle of controversy. He got into some hot water over a comment he made to Caitlin Clark last year at her introductory press conference. He was suspended for 2 weeks and banned from attending their games last season.

My first reaction was "wth does Caitlin Clark have to do with Indiana?" That's how little I care about the (W)NBA.

Personally, I don't think he did anything wrong. I just think society is so soft these days and has no sense of humor at all.

Yeah, no. Virtually every English-speaking woman cringed when they saw and heard that clip.

Heck, even I cringed at how creepy it was.

It may have been well-intentioned and unintentionally creepy - but it was still extremely creepy and, therefore, extremely unprofessional...

Bowl games no longer prove anything other than each SEC team playing in non-CFP games has like 30 guys transferring, declaring for the draft, etc. These games are now meaningless ESPN exhibitions in empty stadiums. Thanks mothership.

It takes a lot to make me cringe, and I cringed.

Do I think Doyel meant anything bad by it?
No. Indeed, he was probably trying to be playful in his own 'I'm an old guy clueless about propriety' way.

If he would have stopped before his SECOND COMMENT, I could have been more on his side there.

Now.....do I think he should have been suspended?
No. But that wasn't my call.

Another reason to move the bowl games if we aren't going to fix the college football calendar...

Schedule most of the bowl games around spring break weeks, featuring interesting out-of-conference matchups to generate interest for the upcoming season. This gives fans a chance to schedule their spring vacations around the bowl games, encouraging more participation via extra time to plan and better weather. Reduce the number of post-season bowl games to a single-digit number, so the dynamic returns to what it was before the proliferation of meaningless bowl games, making it a tangible reward for only quality teams. You basically want just enough that all the ranked teams that didn't make the CFP have a bowl game to play.

You'd end up with two bowl seasons (TV $$$) without having to water down either. Allow teams who don't get invited to a bowl to schedule an opponent for their spring game instead of a bowl.
