Savannah Guthrie's mother's abduction, Arizona

Glove found near Guthrie’s home appears to match those of the suspect in doorbell cam video

A glove found near missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie’s home appears to match those worn by a suspect recorded in doorbell camera footage outside her home the morning she disappeared, according to the FBI.

The glove, which contained DNA, was one of “approximately” 16 that investigators found near Guthrie’s home, most of which the FBI said belonged to searchers who discarded them while working in the area.

“The one with the DNA profile recovered is different and appears to match the gloves of the subject in the surveillance video,” the FBI said in a statement today as the search for the grandmother entered its third week.

The FBI statement appears to indicate the suspected match is based on a visual comparison of the gloves rather than forensic testing. CNN has reached out to the FBI to clarify its statement.

The FBI is awaiting final test results from the glove, the agency said, adding that the process typically takes 24 hours.

I sent NN reporter Brian Entin an email informing him the plural form of Cactus is actually "Cacti".

And not "Cactuses" as he kept saying in his reporting.

I waited a couple days hoping someone else would clue him in, but I guess they didn't. I was very polite about it.

Would be funny if he said on air "Hey a funny story - a Florida viewer named Bazza was kind enough to point out to me I was not using the correct plural form of Cactus. Thanks, Bazza!"

🤷‍♂️

Nancy Guthrie search: DNA from gloves doesn’t match national database or DNA from home, sheriff says

DNA tested from gloves found 2 miles from Nancy Guthrie’s house does not have any matches in the national database known as CODIS and doesn’t match DNA found at Guthrie’s home, either, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos says.

DNA found at Guthrie’s property is still being analyzed, the sheriff says.

So far, the sheriff adds, nothing in the investigation has any matches in CODIS.

CODIS is the FBI-managed Combined DNA Index System, a national database that holds more than 19 million offender profiles, the agency said. Authorities have not said whether they’ve concluded the gloves are connected to the Guthrie case.

The glove visually resembled the gloves worn by a masked man seen on doorbell camera footage on Guthrie’s porch.

The glove with DNA on it was one of “approximately” 16 found near Guthrie’s home, most of which belonged to searchers who discarded them while working in the area, the FBI said in a previous statement.

Investigators are also reviewing evidence obtained through two search warrants executed last week, the sheriff said. The people detained for questioning have been released, and “no arrests have been made,” according to Nanos.

“Regarding gun shops, investigators are canvassing businesses and showing the doorbell video released by the FBI to determine whether the suspect appears familiar,” the sheriff’s department said.

It was probably a kidnapping that quickly went wrong with the death of Nancy.
That would be so stupid, it beggars belief. I remember one remark by a LEO that they thought she was taken to Mexico. The kidnapper would almost have to be a foreigner without adequate knowledge of written or spoken English and without the ability to understand just how fragile her health was and how unlikely her survival, even in the short term, would be. IF it were a kidnapper, as further proof of his stupidity, the blood, including the tell-tale splatter of a heavy blow stands alone, starkly. As I said way above, the marketability of a corpse is a tiny fraction of that of a live victim...

I lost a little interest in this case due to how some of the reporting was being done.

To be fair though - it sounds like the investigation itself has been almost as crazy.

But I don't know for sure to what degree mistakes are being made - just from what I hear and see being reported.

I noticed they finally increased the reward to "up to" a million $. The family wanted to do that much from day 1 but were talked out of it by investigators. Probably because they thought it wasn't necessary and would flood with too many tips.

I'm no expert but I think that was a mistake. A million dollars can do a lot of things for someone who even just knows something, but is not actually involved in the crime. And that's all law enforcement needs.

I do think eventually they will solve the crime but sadly the outcome for Mom won't be what we want. :(
