Alabama Basketball Roster Tracker 2026-2027

Well if we can't discuss it because the staff already knows it then what's the point of the message board?
Never said we shouldn't discuss it. There have been numerous posts that seem to insinuate that the staff may not be aware of the void LP's departure may have on the upcoming roster. I love the discussions and partake in as many as I have time for and can add a little value to. With that being said, I think it's safe to say a plan is in place for someone to run point next year and it won't be overlooked by the staff.

Has there been any recent news confirming that Onyejiaka is cleared to play for 2026-27 season? I've read that he is cleared to play but I'm not certain.

I also do not know if he has been granted a medical redshirt. I think that would be the case so he should be a redshirt freshman this upcoming season. He is young and inexperienced but may end up being an impact player over the next couple of years.

I have not heard but hope what you read is correct. In the very little time I saw him he looks big and physical. If he is good to go along with three bigs we are bringing in through the portal we will have nice big depth.

Not to sound condescending but if we can recognize that you can rest assured that CNO knows that. We may not get exactly what we want from the portal/recruiting but you can believe that the roster will be constructed where players are in place that can execute the offensive and defensive assignments.
I think the issue that some have is that the options to fill the roster are dwindling down. Yeah there is still a large group of guys but how many of them are power 5 talent. We lost 4 guards either through graduation, draft or portal and have not added 1 single guard to the roster. Then you start looking around and of the top 100 guards left you only have about 8 guys left to choose from. It’s starting to feel like we need a date to the prom and we are running out of good looking girls that are available.
The international option is still available and might give us a better player that is ready but we have not been in that market ever before so it not something I particularly want to count on until I see some proof we are dipping into that pool of talent.

Let’s ring up the Harlem globetrotters. They’ve got ball handlers who haven’t signed a nba contract after being drafted or whatever the rule is now

Side note- isn’t tx am doing the same thing this year as we did with bediako last year? What even is the rule now

As much as Coach has talked about europros, I would honestly be shocked if he didn't bring one on in the very near future. If not this year, then next year for sure. I know he will be seeing a lot of them when he coaches Team USA in June.

Well by that logic he did pick the transfer players last year that didn’t work out and defense was a problem. Discussion is fair. People like me like to discuss and question things and acknowledge this past season was one of his best coaching jobs because he missed in the portal. Coaches should be questioned far more now than ever with NIL being people’s money.

I agree, mostly.
But, part of coaching is assembling the team. In my opinion this season was another missed opportunity. If just one of the bigs had worked out this team could have been special. Best shooters CNO has had. But, the worst frontcourt.

We more or less got what we were expecting from the transfers. It wasn't like it was some vaulted class. We struck out in the portal last year, and it was pretty apparent even this time last year. We didn't get the guys we were hoping to get. It just be that way sometimes, especially with all the money being thrown around. Philon coming back was our saving grace, but even with him coming back, we overachieved imo.

Based on CNO's teams, great guard play is at the top of the list from an expectations standpoint. It is probably partly system and partly he is an elite guard ball coach. I would be much more concerned if he went out this portal season and loaded up on guards and ignored the interior as that has been our Achilles heal.

Right but the point is you need the body in the roster on order to coach it.

I'm well aware and so is the staff. If he hasn't got a guard from the portal yet it is more than likely one of the following:

1) He already has someone targeted that we aren't aware of yet
2) He likes what he thinks we will look like currently there and doesn't feel we need to add
3) He is incompetent

I'd tend to think it is option 1 or 2.

The obvious hole right now is at guard. Oats clearly is aware of that fact. I am confident he has a plan. If Holloway does not make it back and Allen goes pro, this team is in very deep trouble.

With this being the case, you have to wonder if the backup plan isn't to go after a europro or two in the backcourt. Maybe one of those guys could be "convinced" to join the team?

Allen can pull out of the NBA draft any time up until May 31st.

European players can be signed now (started April 15 as regular signing period).

There is still the possibility of a lot of moving parts, including money. At least the possible movement is only one-way now since portal entry and NBA entry are closed.

I feel confident that Coach Oats and company have some good things in the works but have no clue. I like what I've seen so far.

This may fit better in the recruiting thread, but since we're discussing guards, or the lack of, I thought I would post this here.
I had held out hope that BAMA would have another shot at Dylan Mingo this time around, since we were in the mix for him before he committed to UNC.
Apparently, not to be. 🫤

He was always chasing the bag.
