Fauci wrote on Jan. 26 [2020] that the first infection was in December and not connected to the market. “Now we know the market was not the source, it was the amplifier.”

And that is a huge admission. Because only one a few days later, on Feb. 1, Fauci participated in a conversation with 12 scientists about the origins of COVID. That conversation would eventually lead to Proximal Origins, a scientific paper that, per Fauci’s interference, strongly endorsed animal spillover as the origins of COVID, and not a lab leak.

Now, in this call, Fauci admits that just two of the scientists of the 12 thought that animal spillover was likely. The rest “felt deliberate insertion was possible.” That means, contrary to the later suggestion that Fauci was just some neutral arbiter and most of the scientists he consulted sided with the wet market theory, we now know that behind closed doors, the vast majority of experts leaned toward lab leak from the beginning — and Fauci himself knew the Hunan Seafood Market was not where the first outbreak occurred. Yet soon thereafter, Fauci would press top scientists to rule out the lab leak.

People need to realize that whatever information and opinions the government gives us publicly, is more than likely NOT the information and opinions they're discussing behind closed doors. Anyone who could fog a mirror could tell you the most likely culprit of COVID19 was a lab leak. No matter how much our governemnt wanted to shine the flashlight in another direction, common sense pointed to a lab leak.

After the meeting of experts, Fauci recounted that “there was not total agreement about the likelihood of deliberate insertion.” They agreed to see if the World Health Organization could convene more experts.

Paul and other critics of Fauci have said that he should have been more immediately forthcoming about his early doubts about the virus’s origins. Fauci and his allies have pointed to comments such as a February 2020 interview with USA Today, in which Fauci acknowledged that the market may have been an “amplifier” for the virus and said that people were “actually looking at” whether the virus had been accidentally or deliberately released, although he downplayed the possibility.

Several times in his diary, Fauci decried the mounting questions from Paul and others on whether there had been a cover-up of the virus’s origins.

In April 2021, Fauci wrote that members of the “radical right wing” and officials such as Paul were trying to “connect me with the virus from WUHAN. … They are saying that I deliberately worked with the Chinese together with [zoologist] Peter Daszak to create a virus that would be released to the world. This sounds very much like a way-out conspiracy theory, which it is. However, there are enough crazy people around to make this a problem.”

The following month, he wrote: “The issue of the escape of the virus from the Wuhan Chinese lab is starting to heat up again” — spurred on by “the usual cast of characters.”

Fauci later dismissed this idea again as a “typical conspiracy theory.”

In May 2021, he wrote that the situation was getting “out of control” with press reports “concerning my ‘flip flopping’” on theories of the virus’s origin. “I had always said that the very highly likelihood is that the virus originated naturally from an animal reservoir jumping to a human. However, over the past couple of days given the amount of speculation about the possibility of a lab leak I have been saying that no one is 100% certain of the origin including me and so I am calling for a thorough investigation.”

“Calling for an investigation is merely to put to rest the extraordinary amount of speculation and conspiracy theories,” he continued. “However, this is being interpreted as Fauci flip flopping again. The far right is really amazing in their distortion of reality.”

But when his recommendations shut down the entire country, creating disastrous years for school-age kids and crushing businesses (in same cases doing permanent (or at least long term) damage to entire industries) I don’t care what the motivation or intent were.

Most of us here will be long since departed before we get the truth behind the Covid pandemic. Over 100 years later we have epidemiologists still debating, slicing and dicing the 1918-1919 Spanish Flu pandemic.
We do know that co-morbidities (immune suppression, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, etc) played a huge role in morality rate with estimates ranging 50-75% of the deaths were among those with two or more confirmed co-morbid risk factors. And as I stated, this data will be sliced and diced for generations.

We know that, while limited, there was US investment in the Wuhan Lab. And there is credible testimony that “gain of function” testing at the very least being discussed by the microbiologists and virologists associated with research facility.

The “wet market theory” IMO was nothing more than an attempt to limit what might be discovered if people really knew going on in the Wuhan Lab and our possible involvement.

This morning, I'm listening to all the Birmingham TV weather folks screaming that the sky is falling, the apocalypse is upon us and visits to emergency rooms will go through the roof due to heat exhaustion.

All because it's going to be 97 or 98-ish today, with hysterics around the heat index of 107+/-. Guys....it's summer in Alabama. It gets hot.

In this particular instance, it's a one-day thing....forecast for tomorrow is 90. For the 9 days after today, the Weather Channel iphone app forecasts highs of 90, 92, 90, 86, 85, 87, 87, 89, 89. That's actually pretty mild for late July / early August in Tuscaloosa.

Plus, you occasionally get some context for the actual temperature vs. normal. Where's the context for the heat index?

I know you have data on historical temperature and humidity. Why not talk about a normal heat index the way you do temperature? I believe the answer is that if you couch a heat index of 103 as pretty normal for Tuscaloosa Alabama in late July, it's no longer inflammatory.

Then there's the definition of "normal" and how it lumps rainy and cloudy days in with sunny cloudless ones and all variations in between. IOW, is comparing a cloudless day against such a "normal" really apples to apples? But that's another discussion for another day.

I'm not denying climate change. I'm saying that TV personalities of all types are bad to exaggerate stories including, but in no way limited to, weather events -- if you can call 97 degrees on one day in late July in Alabama an "event.".

I'm not sure if it's because they want ratings or want to feed their egos by influencing the emotions of a whole bunch of people. Or maybe to get a rush from lemmings breathlessly begging to be saved if only you'll tell us what to do, weather people. We'll do anything you say! But save us! Please, just save us!

It was deadly to those it was deadly to and wasn't deadly to those it wasn't. That was the curveball the disease threw society. There literally were millions of people who contracted COVID and had zero symptoms or symptoms of nothing more than a cold. Then you had millions that it was very harmful to and either killed them or left them with permanent health problems. But as usual, we as a society have to "pick a side" and turn it into a competition, a "I'm right and you're wrong" about something that neither side really fully understood in real time.

Early mortality estimates were up to 5-10% of cases, which is what was observed with SARS.

As testing became available it clearly was less dangerous, but the mortality rate was not clearly pinned down until the middle of 2020. Early severe cases were striking for how sick those patients were and rose dramatically, I don't think anyone wanted to underestimate the risks.

We've had 1.2 million deaths so far. Without vaccine that would have reached 4 million, as the vaccines prevented 3 million deaths and 20 million hospitalizations. An additional million plus deaths were averted due to masking and closures and other measures. Please note, there are good studies evaluating these numbers, critics love to criticize them, but have produced no work suggesting otherwise.

Also, early on there was substantial concern about a lab leak, but as the genetic sequencing data firmed up around May of 2020, it became pretty clear that it was unlikely. The current conspiracy theories have little evidence to back them up. That being the case, the CCP has been extremely uncooperative and we will never learn anything further from them. I would say the lab leakers need to actually provide evidence rather than "common sense" theories.
