For a freshman, in his first start is a massively important game, getting over 200 yards passing and over 70 yards rushing, with 2 touchdowns total ... not bad.
Not bad at all!!! Welcome to the board WVUFan. I'm sure CRR will evaluate all his options, & make the right choice. He mentioned the fans, & obviously they mean a great deal to him. Stick around a while......we enjoy chatting with good fans from any school! ;)

How did I miss "hold the rope"? I did not catch it. However, I am now convinced that we better sign a coach relatively soon or we will be turning any statement from any coach into what we "want" to hear rather than what the words really mean.

"Hold the rope" is not a signal to Mal Moore that he is ready to talk. It is also not a shot at Alabama b/c fran said it.

It sounds to me like CRR is waiting on his raise as well. If nothing else, by the time we hire a coach, we will make other schools spend millions to keep theirs.

I also thought is was not appropriate to ask the man about leaving WV when he was still on the field with his team.

I guess we will know very soon if it is CRR. I doubt this possibility drags out.

Alot of like what they did to Fran when we had just beaten Hawaii.

I knew it was coming. Everybody knew it was coming. Yet I still found myself saying, "Lady don't ask him that question right now. He just beat a good Rutgers team and you're putting him on the spot. Geez! Let him enjoy the victory a little!"

"Here's a twenty. Bury two." You know the story:)

Roll Tide!!

Hey, that can't be a bad thing, can it? ;) :)

Thank you, firstly. I've been lurking since the Rod story broke, and it's amazingly civil here.

Do I think he's leaving? If he wasn't, he would say so. He MAY be postering for more money, but WVU doesn't have the resources to match an offer from Alabama. Having loyalty to your alma mater is one thing, getting a chance like this is entirely another.

What I'm really worried about is the rumor going on in Morgantown that Pat White is transferring with him. Being a Sophomore, he could sit for a year and still have a year of eligibility in his home state.

I doubt it would happen, but given the state of chaos in WV right now, I wouldn't be surprised.
Welcome WVUFan! Stay tuned to the board for next few days. The mods here do a great job in monitoring our manners.

You guys have a great team and coach. Congrats on your win tonight. Last year, there was rumor that we could possibly meet up with you guys in a bowl so I watched the WVU game closely that weekend. I clearly remember thinking that we better pack a lunch if we play WVU.

Keep us posted if you hear anything. We are here 24/7 these days.

I'll tell ya, WVU fan, this is one crazy business. I don't believe many people on our end know much at all. I think the national media (with ESPN being the worst) just makes up a story if the truth isn't already there. I know that we'll be happy, as well as rival fans like yourself, when we all can just cut to the chase and know what is going on.

If you listen to some media folk, you may be afraid to post on here. Our reputation as some of the most unreasonable in all of sport usually keeps people away. It's like they think we can find their address, send out our super-secret Coach Bear Bryant robots and have the lives of our enemies destroyed (Note to self: Maybe not a bad idea on creating murderous flesh-eating monstor robots designed to look like Coach Bryant so he can terrorize Tubberville, Spencer Tillman, Jim Rome and select other ESPN "bigwigs". They're always asking us to "dig him up" anyway?

You seem like a nice guy, and thanks for taking the time to discuss our obsession with us.
Coach RR has been a person of interest for me for a long time. We'll see how all this plays out now.

In the meantime, don't be a stranger to TideFans. Congrats on the big OT win tonight in Morgantown.

I appreciate the warm welcome from everyone. :)

You're absolutely right -- I didn't mean to spread rumors like that, so my apologies. As many of you know, it's crazy up here. He's only been our coach for 5 years, but it feels like the program is juust now getting to where we'd like to be .. the fans love the uptempo spread offense he has, and the fact that he's a WVU native seemed to indicate loyalty. We don't have many coaches up here (We have Bobby Bowden, then Don Nehlen, the Rich Rod, so 3 coaches in over 30 years isn't bad).

Then again, with talent comes opportunity. We'll see what happens. Even is Rich Rod doesn't come, the Alabama job is too enticing to not attract a top coach.

Again, I appreciate the welcome. :)

I'm not convinced RR isn't a "we just have to score more points than they do" rather than a "we only need to score 21 because our D is so good". I know the stats from this year place WVU's D about where Bama's was in overall stats, but the two games I've watched them in this year had way too much scoring (not enough defense), imo...

Give me Stoops or Saban, please!!!

I agree. With their weak schedule, the defensive and offensive stats are padded. If we hire RR, he had better get a great defensive coordinator or we will struggle in the SEC. Whoever he has at WVU is not getting it done.

You guys need to understand that he has a lot smaller budget for his assistants at WV then he would have at Bama. Because of the smaller budget he has to hire a defensive cord. that fits the pay, which is one that isn't all that great. I think if he comes to Bama he could hire a lot better def. cord. because he will have more money to work with.

I hear what you are saying. I think, however, with that style of offense, if Coach Rod were to hire a good deensive coach, he would excel here. Man they spread the field and give opposing defenses fits. I wasn't too impressed with the way his defense played against Rutgers last night. But i think a really solid Defense (the sort maybe coach Kines would have) would make a huge difference.

(ok, I'll admit it. I just dont wanna lose Coach Kines).

Is anyone else concerned that the personel we have now might not fit RR's offense? Doesn't he run a variation of the spread option? His offense seems similar to Fran's, but not quite as complicated as Meyer's... One huge plus however would be the improved play of the offensive line...

For anyone who missed it, Mike Raita from ABC3340 B'ham was in WV tonight for the post game press conference. Here is a quick and dirty transcript:
So it was an Alabama based reporter that continued to ask RR the questions about staying? If so, I couldn't be less surprised. I guess he thought he would be able to pry the confession out of him and scoop the story. Knucklehead.

And the media talks about our fans. The problem is not our fans, it is our media that is the problem.

I'm not. John Parker ran a very similar offense at Hoover, and Jimmy Johns is the type of running back that would be very effective in that backfield.

Good point...Barnes however is another story. McElroy played his HS ball exclusively in the shotgun so I think it might benefit him...

FYI to all who don't seem to get it:

CRR has more up his offensive sleeve than an option attack. His offenses threw the ball all over the field while @ Tulane. Shaun King broke several school and NCAA passing records while playing for CRR @ Tulane. So, don't go thinking the offense WVU ran lst night would be the offense @ Bama if he comes.

We had a conversation about this a couple of days ago and I agree. JPW is in the know on RR's offense. Johns also would do well in this particular offense. I like the pro offense but I do not object to change.

I still say Spurrier is coming to the Capstone.

Sorry, I was not meaning to show my ignorance on RR and West Virginia. The Big East has been....well... BIG in college football this year, but I still can't find the remote fast enough when I see a Big East matchup. Even though I know it's needed, I really hate to change up our offense this much. But if he can win with it I don't care what he runs...RTR
