VERY CLASSY POST!!! What a game tonight, especially seeing how Pat White didn't play at all tonight. Best of luck to you guys in your Jan. 1 bowl game, and hope White has a speedy recovery!!

Don't have a link to back this up, but I'm almost certain I've heard/read RR use the "Hold the Rope" several times this season. I think it is a phrase he uses pretty often and don't think there were any hidden messages in it. If I were a betting man, I'd bet the list of coaches who've used that phrase and the illustration that goes with it goes well beyond RR and Fran.

Hold the rope isn't an uncommon phrase. The middle school basketball team here where i live had it as their motto last year and yelled hold the rope after every timeout.

even if that is the case(I wouldn't know, I just remembered Fran's comments, don't follow WVU  ) that still doesnt explain WHY he pretty much ignored the whole Alabama situation, we still didn't hear "i'm not going anywhere" OR "i'm not interested in Alabama" that is all he would have to do to end all speculation... its like he is like "Alabama? Alabama who? never heard of them" and just ignores the question..

so I still feel confident in him being the next H.C.

After tonights game, I still dont think RR will leave WVU. I think hes just playing his cards right so WVU will think hes considering leaving. In other words, hes trying to get a pay raise out of all of this.

How many pay raises will Bama be responsible for this season?

Very classy post. Thanks! As a long time fan do you think that he is leaving?

BTW:
do you really think he didn't hear her when she asked him that, or do you think he trying to think of something to say? he didn't seem to have trouble hearing her other questions.
Thank you, firstly. I've been lurking since the Rod story broke, and it's amazingly civil here.

Do I think he's leaving? If he wasn't, he would say so. He MAY be postering for more money, but WVU doesn't have the resources to match an offer from Alabama. Having loyalty to your alma mater is one thing, getting a chance like this is entirely another.

What I'm really worried about is the rumor going on in Morgantown that Pat White is transferring with him. Being a Sophomore, he could sit for a year and still have a year of eligibility in his home state.

I doubt it would happen, but given the state of chaos in WV right now, I wouldn't be surprised.

If Rodriguez could bring Pat White home, it would be a huge coup. The fact that he went out of state stings quite a bit.

yeah but that is entirely OUR home state coaches fault, no one really went after the guy, why? oh according to those "big name" scout reporting sites, Pat White wasn't even close to being one of the state's top QBs, coach RR obviously saw something in him and made those sites and our home state coaches look stupid...

of course then there is Phillip Rivers and NC State but lets not get into that, this isn't the place for that, I know the WVU fans are HOPING he stays, but i'm HOPING he doesn't, i'm sure there are people losing sleep on both sides of the fence, and this is one more sick game of chess

He must have NO IDEA how to evaluate their talent then, cause the one he put on the field tonight was TERRIBLE! If White is the best, that guy tonight can't seriously be the best of the other 4.
For a freshman, in his first start is a massively important game, getting over 200 yards passing and over 70 yards rushing, with 2 touchdowns total ... not bad.

As stated before, he won the game IN THE AIR with a backup QB. Think for a moment of how we would play against Rutgers with Jimmy Barnes starting (that's not a shot at JB - but there would be a drop off).

Welcome to the board. You'll find this is the most civil of the Bama boards. Congrats to WVU on the win tonight.

I suppose WV could give RR a pay raise to keep him, but I really don't know how.

Here is a wonderful link to NCAA athletic financial reports...

http://www2.indystar.com/NCAA_financial_reports/

Just compare Alabama to WV...

Alabama brings in twice as much money and has a $5 million surplus in the given year.

WVU is running on a $2 million deficit.

They really can't afford to do a bunch of salary raising.

For anyone who missed it, Mike Raita from ABC3340 B'ham was in WV tonight for the post game press conference. Here is a quick and dirty transcript: (I apologize for my spelling)

MR : Hey Jeff, it was a question of weather RR would stay here at WV or come to Alabama, you know he blew up on Friday about all the rumors that had him comming, I asked him tonight if he was still angery, or if he was just bewildered, and here is what he had to say.

RR: No, well, yea, I'm upset, and my wife is upset, and I would be upset if it happened again. You know, its, um, to me that there was no excuse for it. [Video Cuts to later in the conferences]
Is there such a thing as a lifetime contract? But you see, I've always been nervous about lifetime contracts, I told president Hardesty, because, you know, if they can't fire you, they will just shoot ya. [hold for laffs] They got a lot of guns in WV. [Video Cuts]

MR: [in background, during press conferences] Coach, I know you don't want to talk about it, but you could end it all by just just answering that question definitively.

RR:[to the side] Don't we have any football questions?

David Hardesty (WV PRES) : There is no state that wants RR as its head coach more than WV, and no administration could possibly be more supportive that we are. He has got a lot on his mind, and it is a very stressfull situation being a head coach in a situation like this, and I'll just wait, and hope that we can reach a positive agreement together. I'm sure we will, because, you know, he is a native son, I'm a native son, and we want what is best for our institution, both of us.

MR: So Jeff, No definitive answer tonight from President Hardesty, No definitive answer tonight from AD Ed Pastilon(sp) , and No definitive answers tonight from RR. We will just have to wait and see what happens, they expect a bowl bid here at WV tomorrow, and then Tuesday Rod. Plans to go to New York for the Dratty award, and a lot of deals get done at events like that. For now, I'm live in Morgantown WV, ABC3340 Sports.

How did I miss "hold the rope"? I did not catch it. However, I am now convinced that we better sign a coach relatively soon or we will be turning any statement from any coach into what we "want" to hear rather than what the words really mean.

"Hold the rope" is not a signal to Mal Moore that he is ready to talk. It is also not a shot at Alabama b/c fran said it.

It sounds to me like CRR is waiting on his raise as well. If nothing else, by the time we hire a coach, we will make other schools spend millions to keep theirs.

I also thought is was not appropriate to ask the man about leaving WV when he was still on the field with his team.

I guess we will know very soon if it is CRR. I doubt this possibility drags out.
