Just thought I'd start a discussion on our coaches since Bear Bryant. Who do you think has been the most successful Bama head coach since Bryant?

For me, the logical choice would be Gene Stallings, partially because he led them to the 1992 National Championship.

A more interesting discussion might be who was the 2nd most successful post-Bryant coach.

Perkins 8-4, 5-6, 9-2-1, 10-3 No SEC championships, 2-2 vs Auburn
Curry 7-5, 9-3, 10-2 One SEC championship, 0-3 vs Auburn
Dubose 4-7, 7-5, 10-3, 3-8 One SEC championship, 2-2 vs Auburn
Franchione 7-5, 10-3 One SEC West championship, 1-1 vs Auburn
Shula 4-9, 6-6, 10-2, 6-6 No SEC titles, 0-4 vs Auburn

Who is best out of this group?

You have a firm grasp on the obvious.

Even though he's not done well since he left and I don't personally like him, Fran was the best coach we've had out of the choices. I liked how his team's played. He royally screwed up by leaving, but we all knew that at the time.

Well, duh; it's Mike Price. He never lost a game and could even score in his sleep...
datelineAlabama.com emailed Coach Price earlier in the month to ask him about his first game as Head Coach.....that was cruel :)
Wonder if they ever figured out why he didn't respond......probably not.

"We asked all seven living Alabama football coaches — Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Gene Stallings, Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Price and Mike Shula — to express to us in their own words their first-game experience as coach of the Crimson Tide. All seven responded to us, with four — Curry, DuBose, Price and Shula — graciously declining to participate"

Lucedale, Ms
Stallings 1, then Perkins. I don't think Bama ever takes a nose dive if Perkins stays...

I kinda agree with ya there... IMO, one of the things that hurt Bama was the musical chairs of coaches. With Bryant, we had stability. Thats one thing we have not had since he retired. I hope and pray that CNS will be here for years and years and give us stability as well as a winning program.
