Oregon's OC brought up a great point in that article. If there is a magical system to make marginal quarterbacks world-beaters, then why aren't you running it?

Well, Tubby has a point, but it is hard to deny Tebow. I personally would vote for DMac, but wouldn't be upset if Tebow won. As far as most valuable player goes, look what happened to Oregon once Dixon went down. But the Heisman is, and has been, a popularity contest.

tubberville's ears got in the way when he made his comments about system qb's...the old saying 'engage your brain before you open your mouth' doesn't apply to tubby...it's his ears that get in his way...

I agree, my vote would go to McFadden but Tebow will likely win it. Tebow has the flashier numbers and that's all the Heisman voters really care about now-a-days. The Heisman isn't what it once was that's for sure.

TT is the media darling. He is their Superman. He plays for the coach who invented inventions and I can already see their push for him to win three years in a row and rewrite college football as we know it.

Marketability is what voters use for the most part...does the athlete write a great piece/tell a good story/write a good story during the season?

Tebow's the most popular/marketable...luckily for them he's also revolutionizing the QB position...

In his sophomore year, Leinart had better numbers than Carson Palmer (Heisman winner) did the year before...didn't win it...

C Woodson won the award as a CB/WR/PR in 1997...the following year Champ Bailey had better numbers at UGA and wasn't invited...

I find it interesting that most players/coaches are pushing for DMac in this race...Troy Smith said he was voting Dixon as winner on his ballot and didn't even have Tebow in his top 3...

I hope DMac wins though...

You can't go by just the numbers though - you also have to consider the other players being considered. In most years Hershel Walker's sophomore numbers would have won the Heisman, but unfortunately for him Marcus Allen had an even better year.

The biggest flaw with the Heisman is that most voters don't realize that it supposed to represent the year's most outstanding player - it's not an MVP award, career achievement award, the best NFL prospect award and it's certainly not supposed to be a "best player on the best team" award.

If the voters truly vote by who had the most outstanding year then Tebow wins in a landslide.

That's my argument too. To me "the most outstanding" should mean the one who rose above the pack the most, the one who separated himself from the norm. Using that definition, Tebow is the clear choice because he accomplished more than not just everyone else this season, but he accomplished more than anyone ever has. DMac is a great talent, but let's face it, his numbers are nowhere near being the best of all time, not even the best this season.

Everyone seems to like to point to DMac's game against LSU as the reason why he should win it, but you have to remember that it's an award for a SEASON, not a GAME, or a CAREER. Tebow was not only the most outstanding this season, he was also the most CONSISTENTLY outstanding for the ENTIRE season. It will be a travesty if he doesn't win it, especially if it's because he's only a sophmore.

I know one thing for dang sure, if he were putting up those numbers in a Crimson jersey, there sure wouldn't be so many making an argument for DMac. Time to get over him going to Florida and shelve the childish grudge against him for choosing his childhood team. We sure do expect lifelong BAMA fans to follow their hearts to Tuscaloosa, that's all TT did, he just followed his heart.

...and if McFadden were putting up his numbers in an Alabama jersey, would you be making an argument for Tebow? Just asking. :)

A better question would be what kind of numbers would McFadden be putting up if he wasn't sharing the load with Jones?

Or if his QB was, well, anyone except Casey Dick.
Or if Marcus Monk wasn't injured for a portion of the season.

I totally understand the Tebow argument. I hold absolutely no grudge for him not choosing Alabama. I hate two things about the arguments against D-Mac.
1. Arkansas wasn't as good as Florida.
Ok, Arkansas lost one more game than Florida with half the talent and a quarter of the depth. And half the coaching staff. To me, the fact that Arkansas did as well as they did speaks volumes for DMac. He almost single-handedly beat us.
2. Tebow's numbers are unrivaled in HISTORY!
So were Timmy Chang's and David Klingler's. Some is the system - that's not to say Tebow wouldn't be good in other systems, because he would. He just might not have 51 TDs. Doesn't Colt Brennan have that many?

Finally, my last soapbox is about how almost everyone I hear interviewed about who they think will win the Heisman says, "Darren McFadden is the best player in college football, but Tim Tebow will win."

Okay, done. Tebow will probably win it. He will have deserved it. I just think Darren McFadden will have gotten overlooked two years in a row.

Timmy Chang, David Klingler and Colt Brennan didn't do it against SEC competition.
